The 2007 (the car that had the engine block hole) is alive and well and off to the holiday valley ski slopes this afternoon :)
I have two gen2 batteries in the basement and a third good pack in a spare 2004 Prius sitting at work.
I picked up one of them from a local seller for $200 and that included 1 year old prius12 volt and the gentleman that sold me the 2004 for $1000 included an extra questionable battery.

Dorman was installed when I bought the car at 89,000 miles, I'm not sure why they didn't get it replaced under warranty, maybe non transferable? So Dorman lasted 17k and almost 3 years

The factory warranty stays with the car. I can't think of any reason they wouldn't have gotten it replaced under warranty unless they damaged it by some sort of abuse or they were incredibly ignorant. <need a head scratching emoticon here>

Thanks Kljash. Yeah that's what I was wondering, why the early replacement without warranty.

It might have come from a non CARB state with 8 year warranty. For a 2006 model that would put the expiry some time in 2014, perhaps the OEM battery went out late 2014 just out of the warranty period.

Also thanks for providing another data point which shows that reconditioned batteries aren't worth very much.

Once you ski in the Rockies or Alps, the US East coast "hills" don't really do anything for you.

On the mountain I usually go to, one of the runs is 3.5miles long with a 3200ft elevation drop from 12,400ft.

    Went up this weekend.

And some powder from a previous trip:

One of the benefits of ski country! This is where the Prius gets driven the most. Loaded down with ski equipment and people driving into snow storms for skiing.

I will say this for east side skiing, even though I agree that west is best, short runs give frequent breaks while riding the lift and help one to avoid muscle fatigue and burn. All in all, providing the lift lines aren't long, one can spend roughly the same amount of time on ones boards as with the bigger mountains. The fun factor is still there.

Write Dorman, explain your predicament and ask them to trade your painted cover for an unpainted cover. What do you have to lose?

Thankfully, we are way south of the snow line Jerry. We've had a few chilly nights and a cool couple of days but it's back to shorts and T-shirt weather. We're playing with the Amphicar in the Caloosahatchee! PICT0559.JPG

    Cool!
I have not seen an Amphicar since before my teenage years.
It is strange seeing it from behind with the 2 propellers below the rear bumper.

After a prolonged wild goose chase, The core has been returned and I have received a refund. I would like to thank everyone for their help and encouragement. All in all it was a pretty fun weekend project(not including the return debacle).

Oh I forgot, no I found someone to trade out the battery with, dealer seems to only care about visual damage and case cover. All they did was open the crate and check for damage, didn't check cables or anything, imeadiatly refunded.

I just finished installing the "New Prius Battery" from 2k1toaster. I am very impressed with the kit. Professional grade all the way. The car works perfectly and on tonights test run the dash says it's getting 54 mpg at 55mph. So far I couldn't be happier.
