Which diy Abs reset tool for prius and highlander hybrid do you guys recommend?

I have an 04 prius that has thrown abs codes in the past and a 2006 highlander hybrid that threw the vac, abs and brake lights on after I just changed two wheel bearings and the front pads.

I did some of the work with the car running because my gf wanted to hang out while I worked. (We live in maine....its cold here in jan)....

I don't think I had the car on while I compressed a rear caliper for re install....but maybe I did.

Either way. I see foxwell abs reset tools for $150 But don't know if they work on hybrids.

I see forum members that use some diagnostic cable they order?

What's the best reasonabley priced diagnostic tool guys are using.

I have an 04 prius and an 06 and 09 hybrid highlander. I'd like a cable that works on all of them.

What you need is Techstream ;).

There are 2 popular methods for using Techstream:

    • MiniVCI cable (~$20)
    • VXDIAG cable (~$80)
They come with driver installation software and a version of Techstream. You’ll need an old laptop, but those are usually available on Craigslist or lying around:).

I have the in laws old Windows XP laptop (free) and bought the J2534 mini VCI off of Amazon for ($17). Works well and can read hybrid codes ;).

    Good luck(y).

Yes from what I'm reading you need xp. So I can try and get xp on my laptop.

What's the benefit of the 80 dollar cable?

I see different versions of these cables. Is there a version people recommend? I assume that version means when it was updated but it's not in date format so I'm not sure

    I considering buying this one
Mini VCI Diagnostic Tool Cable Scanner for Toyota Lexus TIS Techstream V10.30.29

I am running version 10.30.029 on the 32 bit XP laptop.

The VXDiag cord allows for faster data resolution, important if doing live data testing (like battery module performance under load).

For the standard application (reading codes, checking settings), the Mini VCI cord will be fine.

By far the most important tool for working on the brakes is the $15 for your techinfo subscription. :) The manual explains how to read the brake codes, what they mean, and even (if a simple reset is all that's needed) how to reset them, without any special tool at all beyond a piece of wire (so you're never out of luck, say, 300 miles from where your fancy tool is).

If you'd consider more than one important tool, Techstream would be next on the list. :)

I think the tech stream is cool! That's what I use.

Has anyone tried launch scanttols before too? They seems to be a nice stuff. Doesn't need a laptop for its operations
