The '17 Prius's come with a moon roof option. Why doesn't the Prime come with this option?

That's the missing link. I was so close to getting one. I really don't want a Chevy Bolt EV. Blyuck

Weight in the wrong place and risks flow separation and higher drag.

Yes. But the Prime has at least 4 times the battery size and weight of the regular Prius.

Does that mean once the 25 miles range is gone, that the Prime has worse mpg's than a regular Prius?

No. The Prime is rated 54 mpg average versus the regular Prius rated 52 mpg average. I think it has to do with the larger battery having the large capacity to store more regenative electricity, which allows more electric use and less gas use.

I used to really like having a sunroof. In fact, at one time, I considered it a requirement. But they are somewhat noisy, somewhat of a maintenance issue, and the main reason I liked them so much really doesn't exist with the prime - getting rid of the heat quickly. The four auto windows on the Prime combined with the extremely amazing A/C renders the sunroof an unneeded headache for me.

There is also the fact that the Prime has an option to cover the entire roof with PV cells that never made it to the US.

The Ioniq limited has a moon roof, but no info yet on the plug in model.

I guess I'm a rarity but I like a sunroof for the view. I realize you can't look through it while driving, but when parked, or at a stoplight especially when downtown it's nice to be able to look up. And even when driving it makes things feel more open. Of course it's not used all the time, like during summer with the sun directly overhead, but still nice to have available. I always wished there was an option for just a glass roof, sealed like a windshield to avoid leaks, just needs the lightweight retractable shade like they already have. No issues with affecting airflow, and I would think it wouldn't affect ceiling height as much as current moonroofs which have to accommodate the retraction mechanism. And no motor needed either which is becoming more common with moonroofs. I suppose there would still be a slight weight penalty but hopefully not too much.

But most people seem to want them mainly for the fresh air so I'm not sure if they will ever have just a glass roof.

As already mentioned, it’s probably weight and aerodynamics. I’m not knocking those that like sunroofs, but for me it’s not a factor -- I’ve never liked them.

Sounds like you want a Tesla Model 3, if you can put up with the expense and limited range.

Yeah and less cargo space. And for that price I would expect an LCD sunroof that you can make clear or opaque with the push of a button.

The sunroof also requires a lower interior roof liner to have room for the sunroof. Less head room, in addition to the added weight and expense.

Hyundai is pronounced HOON die. I know, they call it something like hun-day, but that's not the way I hear it pronounced in Korea.

Not in my experience. I routinely have 57+ MPG in regular driving. My 2007 Prius Model 6 only got that high on one trip to LA and that was with LRR tires and all freeway. Normal for that car was about 50
