    Hello,
Could the board recommend some 4x or 2x battery chargers/re-conditioners.

There seem to be a LOT of them available, and I'm not certain what the critical specs should be (other than NiMH).

    Other specs?
    Charge current/power?
    Discharge current/power?

    Thank You,
    Nico

Sounds like you have a fun project ahead of you:(.

    Some questions:
    • Is this for the 12v or the big hv battery?
    • If the hv battery:
    • Looking to do the modules individually?
    • Why not do them all together?
    • Where in the US are you located?
    • Do you have Techstream?
I have the Hybrid Automotive equipment and it works great:).

Just loaned it out to another member who swapped in 2 modules and he is back on the road after about a week ;).

If the 12 volt, I have a BatteryMINDer 1510 and it works great for desulfurization and keeping the 12 volt healthy:).

    Keep us posted (y).

    Thanks, but I’m in Ohio.

I’m looking to charge the hybrid battery. Looking for a 4x charger or some single chargers. Not sure on the best models.

Not looking to spend much over $200.

What’s prompting your charging of the battery? Failed module, or being proactive? How long are you looking to spend performing this activity?

While I’m not offering my charger up, I was sharing this as an example. Maybe there is someone in the large state of Ohio that might have the setup and you could be all in forbthe Harness and loaner fee for under the $200 you said you wanted to be at:).

If undertaking this project, ensure your current isn’t too high and Harte with the modules clamped together as they will swell. Keep a fan blowing across the pack to dissipate the heat generated.

Techstream is software that is used to read many things about a Toyota, Lexus or Scion;).

    Hope that helps (y).

Thank you for the explanation and details.

I have a P0A0(?) code... need to rebuild the battery. (225000miles and 12 years old)

What sort of details would be helpful from techstream? I have a code reader and a Obd2 to USB diagnostic connection.

Not sure which code reader you have, but can it read individual block voltages as well as their internal resistances?

When rebuilding a pack, these will be 2 keys to look for.

You should have another code along with P0A80 code (something like P3014 but the end 2 numbers will be different). This will identify which module to go after.

Where did you get the replacement module from? Was the pack the original pack in your Prius? Do you know the date code for the replacement module?

    Keep us posted.

The stand-alone code reader ($20 from Walmart) only gave the P0A80 code.

Tomorrow, I'll give my USB code reader a try. It is a variant used by Chrysler dealers so I don't know if it works to read all the Toyota codes.

I haven't purchased any replacement modules yet. The hybrid battery in my Prius is original.

    Noob,

If your goal is to cycle all the modules, you can do that using a EV-Peak CQ3 or a HiTec 44254. Both will do 4 modules at a time. Tme HiTec is probably the better of the 2 and should be faster, as the previous HiTec models I've used (44167, which was replaced by the 44254) will go through up to 5 cycles automatically. The CQ3 chargers say they will, but in reality, stop after every cycle unless the charge cycle ends due to delta-peak, which doesn't happen often. They're both in the $200 range, but can sometime be found in the 160 range.

Time will tell tomorrow if it can;).

If looking for modules, @jeff652 sells modules on the Hybrid Automotive website:).

That’s where I would look if I need some;).

Good luck tomorrow and keep us posted (y).

I'm curious if this charger would work well for single module cell reconditioning. ITs a great price at $55.

Probably your adblocker. I had blank area too, turned mine off, and then can see Amazon link. My last adblocker, it was easier to set exceptions. Oh well.

BTW, posters wanting a product opinion: paste a picture of it, don't make it tough to see. Amazon links are blanked by a lot of of adblockers.

Hey cool, R/C charger being used on Prius. I had wondered if any of the "do it yourselfers" had used these chargers.

I understand they were used more widely before grid chargers like the Prolong system became available as a better, quicker alternative. IOW, desperate times call for desperate measures.

    EV-Peak CQ3 or a HiTec 44254 in 2021 ??
