Like I always got on my school reports, "Does well, but could do better." (y)

I ordered a used battery from a junk yard. They said it was from an 08 with 45k miles on it for $550. When I picked it up, it was an 06. So I returned it. My car continues to run fine for now. I am going to pre-order a battery from @2k1Toaster
I think my car can make it until April. I work from home so I don't have to commute much.
I think the dealer could have done better than $2650, which is why I don't plan to buy it from them.

Just curious, if it's not too involved: how do you determine the year of the battery? Something on the battery, or maybe the car it was pulled from?

Official way is the date code on the modules;).

But this sounds like it was done in a more qualitative way:whistle:.

    Quoting @dolj here:

There should be a date code within the pack serial number on the outside of the pack. There is also a date code as part of the serial number on each of the modules inside the pack. So, if you are able to open the pack up, you can check each individual module. If it is genuine pack the modules should be closely sequential and the month should be with 3 months of each other.

This diagram will show how to decode the serial number on the outside of the pack:

This diagram will show how to decode the serial number of each module inside:

    hope this helps.

Low use is hard on these batteries and really tough on weak ones. Getting new modules is a very good move. Remember, you can always sell that pack if (when) the car reaches its end to recoup some $. Good luck!

I drive it daily on short trips and at least weekly I drive it for a few hours. So hopefully that's not really low use. I think I actually put about 12k miles on it last year.
It did seem to have some hesitation from a stop last week but somehow that went away and it's fine now.
Maybe I could sell the modules from my battery if I replace them with Cylindrical cells.

Thanks for that. Not sure if this is any more portable, but I've attached a pdf version of those jpgs.
