Still getting same as before installed. These are very smooth to surface as I tried to take a picture from the top after installed in the one photo. They are hard to even see on the car until about 10 feet from it. I would think my mudflaps have more resistance area and they did nothing to hinder gas mpg.

As for holding my doors, yes, I do too however young passengers like my 9 year old son are more concerned with their 3DS than dad's car.

The quoted 1.8mm is in the noise-level of sheet metal tolerance, bird-droppings and other contamination.

That said, I'd like to see them up close.

As sURFNmADNESS indicated: the DEGs are so small and perfectly color matched, they're tough to see unless you get really close.

I was at the NY Auto Show a couple of weeks ago and noted that Toyota had installed DEGs and body side moldings on all of the cars on the show floor (blue Camry in the third photo). If the DEGs are tough to notice; that's the whole point. The door is open in the first picture to highlight the DEG. The second shot is a car I noticed in a parking garage.

I'm like you where I'm very careful to hold my door when I open it, but unfortunately my passengers don't share my concern. It's one less fight with my wife who claims I care more about cars than people because I get upset when she wails the door into a wall.

My Gen II (now with 220K) has four inches of paint missing from the driver side back door edge and the metal is roughened like sandpaper courtesy of my boss. Returning from lunch with two co-workers, I pulled into a spot in the garage at work and my boss in the back seat THROWS the door into a concrete support pillar. Without missing a beat he announces, "you should have door edge guards on this car!". I wanted to take a baseball bat to his windshield. The SOB has worked in the same building and parked in the same garage for 25 years and the concrete support posts haven't moved; but it was my fault for not taking measures to prevent his carelessness. It burns my butt every time I look at the shredded door edge on my Gen II.

Those are key reasons why I installed DEGs on my Gen III. Just avoiding the reoccurring fight with the mixed bag of nuts I live with is worth 1000x what I paid for the DEGs. Now I can commiserate with my wife for how she was grossly inconvenienced by where someone thoughtlessly put that wall.

Interesting as I've read they do cost you on the order of .2 MPG. Only reason I didn't get them and I'm not really OCD about mileage..

Negligible at most. Your right foot has more effect on mileage than what these DEGs would ever have.

Still loving the DEG. Just filled up yesterday. Still getting 46-47 mpg. No effect.

Our v5, purchased last August, also came with door edge guards. They are body color and are also on the door frame behind the rear doors. I had assumed that they were standard equipment.

Photos would help to understand what you are referring to. When you say they "are also on the door frame behind the rear doors" it sounds like you may be referring to urethane stone-chip patches?

DEGs are fitted to the spine of the door's edge as shown in the photos posted.

Yes, the door edge guards on our Prius v5/ATP are similar to what is shown in the photo attached to the post from teamsc2190 except their color perfectly matches the car's Blizzard Pearl paint. The guards bonded to the rear door frame edges are of the same material and are adjacent to the rear door edge guards when the rear doors are closed. Unlike the rear door edge guards, the rear door frame guards extend upwards only about halfway from the door sill.

I would take photos but the car is currently on it's first out of town trip - breaking 4,000 miles after 9 months.

Maybe the edge guards were standard on the v5 -- two of us are reporting that ours came with them.

Our late 2011 issue 2012 v Five does not have DEGs.

    Product update.
It has been over 6 years now and these door edge guards are still solid. No scratches, loss of paint, no fade. In fact, I went looking today to see if Adell had door edge guards for my wife's (new to her) used 2015 Rav4. It appears the company is no longer selling many of the door guards directly, however a google search is turning up little. The website seems to indicate they are still in business, but very limited on which cars they are still making guards for.

Adell is the OEM supplier to Toyota. They don't sell genuine Toyota DEG products through their own aftermarket.Genuine Toyota DEGs for your wife's car are available from any Toyota dealer or even on Amazon (many dealers sell through Amazon at reduced price).
