Just got the Prime Advanced Blizzard Pearl today. Had 2 hours on the road. The dealer didn't charge the car so, no EV mode trial (I know, what a bummer). First impressions...

    Toyo tires...not much road noise
Build quality is solid, finishing is sharp.
At first, the rear hatch cross bar view was weird. But I got used to it fast.
Handling was much better than I expected.
Dealer wouldn't move at all on the price and I hate nickel and diming.
It's going to be 9 F in Iowa tomorrow, so I'm just going to keep the car charged and warm in the garage.
    Will post more...

I live in Mason City, we bought our Prime in Chicago earlier this month, I wonder how many Primes there are on the road in Iowa?

It's too bad more don't know about CHARGE-MODE yet. That sure is handy on test-drives when they don't bother to plug in. Only a few minutes of running the engine will give you a decent test of EV driving.

CONGRATS...bummer they did not have it charged. That is like selling a car with the gas tank empty. I called several times to make sure they had mine charged.

Soon you will be watching for sheep.

How do you like yours driving in Iowa? I am worried about leaving the car at my work parking lot in the cold. We don't have a charging station at work yet.

On the coldest & snowiest days, I don't bother plugging in at work, since it doesn't use up enough capacity then to justify the recharge. That's here in Minnesota. It's no big deal. In fact, here's video of exactly that...

The car was designed to be parked outdoors. It will work just fine. When it's super cold out the engine will run to produce heat.

Never, with any of my 5 generations of Prius here in Minnesota, have I had any trouble. Starts up effortlessly.

Temps well below zero over the Christmas 2017 included several days outside without garage or plug. No big deal.

I always thought cold weather starting was a Prius strong point.

My wife drives it to work, only a 5 mile commute and hasn't had any issues, and she preheats the car with the app, no charging stations anywhere in NC Iowa yet, we charge it in our garage at home off peak for $.06 kw/hr so it's a perfect fit for us, averaging 61.5 MPG and rising every day, it's a much better car than I expected.

Thank you all. I thought I downgraded from my Infiniti M35x to a Prime. I was wrong. 16-17 mpg to hopefully 100+... Can't wait.

We turned in a 15' Camry XLE V6 lease for the Prime, I was skeptical at first but the Prime is pretty impressive.

A Prius never has problems starting because you're not cranking an engine like a regular car; you're literally turning on the computer. The computer is the one that fires up the engine (from immediate to about 10 seconds after start-up depending on outside temperature).

I can start in -40 without issues (but I do run a block heater for the engine to reduce wear and tear as well as shorten the time needed to get heat into the cabin).

And yes, I have parked outside overnight in -30°C temps in my Gen 3 (so, older car than the Prime) with no start up issues.

Congrats. You should have no problem with the car in the cold. Make good use of the heated front seats and heated steering wheel.
