Discounted Toyota Prius Extended Warranty /Service Contracts

Normally I have done maintenance on all the cars/trucks I own as far as oil and filter changes, and the inspections. If there is a question whether I can do it as well or not I would have taken it in for inspection. How would that effect the warranty coverage. I take great care in minding my oil and filter changes and maintenence on our cars. I guess keeping the reciepts for oil & parts used is normanl operation for that but is there any way that would disavow the extended warranty coverages you offer?

You can certainly do the maintenance yourself if you like. Like you mentioned, just keep a log with the date and mileage that you did it, and save the receipts for any parts and oil used. The only time this would come up on a warranty claim is if the failure looked like it was due to neglect or lack of maintenance. In that case, you want to have it well documented that you did all the required maintenance.

Interesting that the paper they handed out specifies 2004 and later Prius--did the service reqs change? The OTHER question still remains--how are the coupons/stuff in the prepaid pkg worded?

 

Just got a 2006 Prius. An extended Warranty and Prepaid Maintanance sound very good to me. The plans that Troy sells are cheaper than the one offerd by my dealer in North Palm Beach. I called 4 dealers in the Miami, Florida area and one service Manager told me that they don't accept the Toyota Financial Warranty and maintanance plan. My question is. Has anbody used the Toyota Financial Warranty in the Miami area? Please let me know. Ray

Batteries are not covered in the extended warranty; see here. You already get the standard added warranty on the hybrid components, which is almost as good.

 

I just bought a 2006 Prius this week. I found out about this site and gladly signed up. Certainly, the first thing that caught my eye is the extended warranty forum.

First, a question.

I read this on a website.

"The State of California has passed legislation that prohibits quoting or selling extended service contracts (extended warranties) to California residents by anyone other than the selling automobile dealer. In order to comply with this legislation of your state, we are unable to provide price quotes or offer to sell extended service contracts to California residents."

It sounds very official. Could anyone verify this?

It seems that this legislation prohibits sales of any extended warranty to any car/model from anyone else other than the original selling dealer. I certainly have doubts about this.

Appreciate any enlightment.

Call me skeptical (sceptical? rufaro?), but I somehow get the feeling that this may be related to THAT particular organization and not a state/federal/whatever law...that this organization may not WANT to offer such things in CA, where we have some peculiar ideas about lotsa stuff, including what we will get when we pay money for it...

OK, I'll admit I'm confused - just bought a 2006 Prius, and the dealer quoted $1954.46 for a 10-year, 100,000 miles, 0 deductible warranty. Since that is a LOT of $$$$, I stumbled on this site. But who is Troy, and how do you get a quote from him? If I go on the toyotafinancial website, it says Florida is not covered. I live in Ft Lauderdale. Any hope for me other than this ripoff? ANY advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

In short, the plans just cant be PURCHASED from dealers in those states, but you won't have any problems filing claims. There are three regions in the U.S. that have private distrubutors, Southeast, Gulf States, and Hawaii. Dealers in those regions all offer their own regional plans rather than the factory backed ones through Toyota Financial. So if you want the factory plan, you have to get it from an out of state dealer.

Hi all,

Just want to give everyone a heads up.

Toyota snuck a price increase in on us on the AutoCare maintenance plans. Effective immediately the 4 yr / 55,000 mile Premium Auto Care plan which I had been offering for $670.00 is going to have to go up to $875.00. The suggested retail price is going from $995.00 to $1355.00 which you'll already see refected at the Toyota Financial website.

What Toyota is doing is increasing the amount they're paying the dealers for each of the services...I guess many dealers have been complaining that they don't make enough when people use the coupons, so this is just an inflationary adjustment to compensate for the rising labor and oil costs.

Sorry I wasn't able to give more notice, but I didn't get any myself.

woops nevermind I see this is for maintenance plans not extended warranties.

 

Even bigger woops...for Toyota...since I don't drive that many miles a year and now won't go prepaid at all.

Believe me, your dealer would far prefer you not get it. They make a lot more money in service when you pay as you go, then they do on people using the pre-paid plan. This just closes the gap a little bit.

BTW...even if you are only driving 1000 miles per year, you should be following a 6 month service schedule. If you look at your maintenance guide, it states that services should be performed every 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Using that schedule, it will take you 66 months to use all eleven coupons in the maintenance plan which isn't a problem. The only thing that expires at the 4 year mark, is the roadside assistance. The coupons are good for a year past the expiration automatically....which is 60 months, and I can get an extension to 66 months with a quick phone call for anyone in your same situation.

Toyota used to include free roadside assistance with the Prius...that's what ended. But you can still get roadside assistance as part of the AutoCare pre-paid maintenance plan.
