Well like most compact cars, they have been increasing in size. The current gen Corolla is absolutely huge compared to the ones my parents had.

No but it might be one of those things where it continues elsewhere in the world but not here.

Correction: Midsize cars still outsell compacts in the U.S.

In Canada, the compact car is king. Civic, Mazda3, Corolla and Elantra are the top cars.

There were minor additions to the 2018 model such as TSS-P as standard equipment (last year, it was just DRCC and PCS like the Gen 3 Prius). JBL audio and the 7" MFD were removed from the options list.

I stand corrected, I just didn't look at the right time period. I just looked at us and canada for north america for the last quarter. Somehow we don't get easy statistics for Mexico and central america. In the last quarter the Camry was the best seller (US + Canada) but for the full year it was the Civic, then Camry, then Corolla. With Canada's higher civic sales a greater differential to the US Camry sales.

The prius v peaked in 2012 with 4077 units in Canada, had fallen to 804 last year in line with the decrease in the US. I'll be curious to see if they break 1000 this year. Do you know when they will start making the rav4 hybrid in Canada?

Ahh I see what you did. But on a whole, we buy more compacts than midsize.

If you look at TCI sales, the Corolla and RAV4 are top of the charts and 3rd place is waaaay behind. I haven't checked the Honda sales chart.

In the US, the RAV4 has taken the Camry's place with 400,000+ units while the Camry dropped from 400,000+ to about... low 300,000s?

I do not know when the R4h will begin production in Canada (Didn't even realise they were. That's pretty cool - alongside the RX)

Ye-ah. Our car buying population is 1/10th of the US. (Also, I think California has more ppl than Canada)

Lexus announced a 3 row hybrid vehicle, I posted about it in FHoP a little while ago.

I would have bought a Prius V but it was missing one want to have options the Prius 2016 4 has, Color Head-Up Display (HUD), and would also liked to have the DRCC. But, not a show stopper like the HUD . maybe they will come back to the US market..And, and for that dang moon roof on the 2016 Prius ... You can keep it... I never use it ... wish I had spare tire in place of that moon roof

What’s odd is the discontinued Prius V still sells (brand new) in quantities that exceed the in production Yaris.

Any bets on how long the Yaris (Echo's successor) lasts in the U.S.?

Look at this year's sales numbers for the hatchback:
    • Jan: 174 (down from 1330 a year ago)
    • Feb: 136 (1057)
    • Mar: 144 (1377)
    • Apr: 131 (1522)
    • May: 139 (852)
Why didn’t they ditch the yaris and keep the v?

There could have been more profit made on the Yaris.

    For sure.
The Yaris needs more servicing, so more profit

For the dealer. I was thinking it might be cheaper to get wherever the Yaris is made to the US than the Prius v from Japan.

I see that Honda will have a CRV with a hybrid system at least in Europe. The CR-V will also offer a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine connected to a pair of electric motors which Honda is calling the Intelligent Multi Mode Drive (i-MMD). The system uses one of the motors for propulsion, while the other is an electric generator.

It is the same system used by the Accord hybrid, Insight3, and Clarity PHEV.

Honda also has a one motor, dual clutch transmission system similar to what Hyundai has in the Ioniq and Niro. I only know of the Jazz using it. There is a performance AWD offshoot of this that adds two motors to the rear wheels that a couple Acuras use.
