Thanks for that post so long ago. I just bought a new 2013 Prius V version 3 and was disappointed to see what I thought was a better trim model ( it actually was, nav, satallite, yada, yada) did not include the Home Link mirror my 2006 had (not to mention the driver's only door smart lock, but that's another story).

I took the mirror off my 2006 (with 150K which I'm giving to my college bound daughter who will have no need for a garage door opener for a few years) and switched it with the other. Free Home Link mirror! The tutorial you offered was great. The only thing I would add is to be careful to put the wires along the headliner behind the side curtain airbag. It would be easy to wrap the wires around the airbag which might cause problems with its deployment, and it is just as easy pay attention and make sure the wires are behind the airbag to prevent potential problems.

Thanks again for a great post!

Sorry to bump up an old thread. Did you have to remove headliner to put the wires in? Or you can tuck the wires in from the edge?
    Thanks

See my post #2 in the below link. This is not the same pdf but has enough (maybe too much) info. Page 4 of the pdf is the key schematic to understand. Even then you want to pull down the map light panel to really get the idea. Auto Dim Mirror | PriusChat

PS: The pics of removing the sunvisor and side pillar panel are only necessary if you are trying to run a switched 12v wire down under the dash. It will work on constant 12v only, which I did, and does not require messing with the headliner, visor or pillar panel.

Thanks, my my main question is where to pick up the signal which un-dims the mirror when reverse is selected. That's a non-negotiable safety feature for me. I removed the mirror from my totalled Camry and was hoping it would be an easy install like it was in the Camry, but it looks like it's going to be difficult. I'll probably get a quotes from a dealer and an audio shop for the installation if I can't find the proper signals.

The Prius v5 with the homelink mirror did not come with the reverse signal wired. However a signal is available on connector LR1, which is shown in both of the pics attached. I would certainly verify the voltage level at LR1. These drawings are available by subscription on the Toyota TIS site. Also be sure to ask your main question.

Interesting, thanks. I really liked the fancy mirror on my Camry and I have the part, but struggling to decide how much money I want to put into a $4000 car.

I did mine for $90 of which $85 was the mirror you already have. Maybe 15 minutes of actual work hooking up 12 v and ground. My goal was the homelink first, autodim second. I will probably reinstall the original mirror when I sell. Most of us use the backup camera and still turn around and look. You must have way over 200k on it if its only worth $4000. Around here they go from $10k to $16k. By the way these cars are very popular as taxis in Europe. Ride better than most anything else they drive as taxis and gets better mileage.

Mine has ~156k and is a former NYC taxi. Only about $60k on the traction battery though. I've got right at $4000 in it and counting. Fixed the ill-located mode switches last night for free. Getting the front seat upholstery fixed tomorrow for $150. Replacing the driver door switch cluster is next. It's a long list. :)

    Hello from future :)))
I am here and faced same issue, I have 2012 plug in without homelink, I have already bought rear view mirror with buttons and wires and want to connect it for using auto dimming and garage opener. I think everything will be the same. so can anyone share your experience?
