Wonderful summary with insights. Now I am concerned to get my fuse recall done before backing up my PHV data. How to get a dump of my historical PHV data before losing them? Thanks.

Do I really HAVE to have this recall work done? Or, I won't be able to renew my CA registration? Nearest dealership is 20 miles away and our 2012 Plug In is in use 7 days a week. 191k miles, and climbs a steep 12 mile ascent daily with no problem. I do all maintenance.

Anyone had this recall work done at Toyota of Redlands or Toyota of San Bernardino?

I just went to the dealership to get the fuse changed. It took all day, not 3 hours like they said.

The car's miles per gallon is way off along with the fuel gauge. I called the dealer and they said to wait a few days and see if the car will "relearn." What does that mean? It is not working. I get very poor mileage, and the gas tank is almost empty with the same amount of driving I was doing.

Has anyone else has this issue? How can it be fixed? What do I tell the service manager about what needs to happen?

I appreciate all your suggestions and insights!

By the way, even the horn sounds funny, on the car. What is going on?

    welcome!

can you give us more detail? when they work on the car, everything gets reset to factory default. your best bet is to fill the tank, drive it until ready to refill, then measure your mpg's at the pump. if they have gone down, then it's time to look into possible causes.
as for ev miles, the only thing that matters is how many you are actually getting, not what the dash estimate says.

Correct. On critical safety recalls, DMV in California will not allow you to renew or register your vehicle. I had mine done at Pasadena Toyota on Foothill.

Schedule an appointment over the phone, drop it off, then pick it up. Took about 3 hours start to finish. Can’t drive up and complete same day because they need the part delivered.

Is there actually any rush in getting this recall done?

I kind of doubt it. But then you never know if you might be one of the lucky ones whose fuse gives out in the middle of nowhere. I saw no reason to wait, but felt no sense of urgency either.

I am kinda worried about the existing data in my PiP. This recall is said to erase all the historical data off my PiP.. I am delaying due to this.
Is there any way to take the backup of data off my PiP before taking it for the recall?

Not that I know of. But that's a possibility any time you disconnect the 12V battery. If the shop uses an OBDII data saver, you should be OK. I didn't lose any data or settings.

if you drive conservatively, the fuse will be fine. mine is 6 years old.

@jerrymildred , the kind of data that was mentioned lost was, the historical miles, EV miles, gas used, even more detailed. Not just what a 12V battery eats the (settings etc) data.

I did lose my historical data and settings when I disconnected the 12V without a data saver to work on my brakes. When the dealer replaced my fuse, I lost no data or settings. I wasn't there to see how they did it; I'm just assuming they used a data saving device.

Oh!! Thats re-assuring me to proceed with the fuse recall, if the data is not lost. I guess I read it different on this thread in one of the previous post(saying the data was lost during the fuse recall fix by the dealer). Thanks for that clarification

@jerrymildred , This is what I am worried about. It looks like some Dealers are not able to save the old data. Now I am thinking about how to save my historical data before taking it to the Dealer..

it is not a matter of not being able, but more likely unaware or lazy. you need to have that discussion with the service manager before proceeding.

I just had my recall fuse job performed and my ev mileage jumped from a former maximum on 12 to 14. This was confirmed in actual mileage testing also. Drove 12.2 miles actual and about 2 ev miles left. This was a "good news" recall service. I do not think Toyota knows why this is happening or is not saying. I am very happy! Do not delay this recall service another minute!

As @bisco said, it will depend on your dealer. They may or may not protect your data. In fact, it probably depends on the individual technician.

AFAIK, there's no way to electronically download the info and then put it back. You'd have to write it by hand, take pictures, or put it in an electronic note if you want to be sure to keep it.

It’s possible for a fuse to appear good, measure good with a multimeter, but still not be conducting 100 %
I = E/R if the resistance at the fuse varies by only a small amount, this throws the amount of current off entering something like18 different computers in the Prius. You just got a real boost in current and now it’s working right. Currents are measured in Amperes, milliamperes and micro amperes.
