I think that diagram is for the Evaporative Emmissions system, not the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system. The canister referenced in the diagram would be the charcoal canister that captures fumes from the fuel system.
If you can find a video or instructions online for how to change the PCV Valve on a Camry, that should show you what to look for.

Maybe this has been addressed already and I just missed it... but why is the Gen-3 PCV valve/outlet located low in the crankcase, instead of up on the valve cover like every other engine?

I do not know. I would have preferred to see it on the valve cover as well.

Maybe the new normal? Our 06 Civic has similar location. Vents better? (n)

It would seem as though it would vent better. I wonder if that's a part of the EGR system clogging -- that it vents too well? Food for thought.

I'm on the same page. When you look at what accumulates in oil catch can. Reality is maybe multiple factors, say the PCV sludge plus where the EGR intake is, upstream of the Catalytic Converter. 3rd gen being the first with EGR, we're the guinea pigs I guess.

Our previous 06 Civic has an EGR component, but it's much simpler, and maybe not flowing near as much gas. No coolant plumbing either, and very easy to access/remove. It's gasket kinda came apart in the process though, when I took a look at it; had to get a replacement.

I checked that when the car is well over 200K kms, and it was just a little grubby, not bad.

    Welcome!
It would be useful to see your state on your location. It helps provide useful information. I know there is a Bedford, Virginia near me, for instance, but I doubt you are from there.

There's a Bedford in Nova Scotia, Canada too? Bottom line, it's a big world.

A bit of more info, my current DD is a 2010 Prius 5 with advanced tech package, not sure if that info makes any difference; I bought it from the original owner and it has 155k miles on the odo, I have tacked on another 4k since I have gotten it.

Although it has high millage but I have bought higher millage cars in the past with good luck, my family hauler is a 2007 Odyssey that I purchased with 200k miles and it sits now with 280k on the odometer.

I have been a honda guy most of my life, my garage queen is a 2000 AP1 S2000, wife has a 2007 Acura RL and family hauler is the 2007 Odyssey. Even though the prius is not my first Toyota as in the past I owned a 2000 Lexus GS, which I recently sold with 180k miles on the odometer, it is however my first Hybrid.

I had my apprehensions before I bought it but I must say I enjoy the car when I drive it, if anything it has tamed the usual road raging Masshole that I am, this according to the wife.

Back to the prius, its in good cosmetic condition, mechanically it seems to be in good order as well, couple of things that worry me are weeping head gasket, see the video below and gunk/curd at the end of the oil dip stick, the car does not burn any oil or loose any coolant AFAIK. In the spring time I plan on cleaning the EGR pipe, intake manifold and install a oil catch can, in the meantime I am sending some used oil to get evaluated by the oil lab.

Nice car! I'd say that's definitely worth keeping and maintaining.

At that mileage I'd be sure to clean out the EGR cooler. From my rough calculations, having a clogged EGR can increase engine temperatures 800*F more than when new. That's what many of us PCers think causes the bad head gaskets.

If you have the socket for the Honda oil filter, it'll fit the Toyota too. I would suggest to take the engine underpanel off completely when doing oil change, and wash all the grit out of plastic fasteners before reusing. Some oil change info in the attachments.

I plan on doing some work on the motor come spring time, which from the looks of it might be sooner than I anticipated. For now here are the few things I need to take care of

    1) Remove bumper and fix a one inch crack in it towards the underside.
    2) Fix fog light shroud.
    3) Replace OEM halogen fog lights with Morimoto LED fogs (direct replacement).
    4) Clean EGR system.
    5) Clean PCV hose.
    6) Clean intake manifold.
    7) Install Oil Catch Can.

Can someone point me to shown OCC, piping and fittings that most folks are using? I tried the amazon link for the OCC bracket but the link isnt working any more, TIA

Here is one that most seem to be using lately . I am sure there are numerous sellers offering the same thing. I had no issues with this seller. Price was right, and shipping was fast . Works perfect on my 2011 ! This is the Ruien style .

EDIT : Noticed this seller is now shipping these from China instead of the US (where mine came from) . Shipping is still free, but may not be as quick now .......... :(

Here it is on my Gen 3 ..........
