OK, I'm still a rookie Prius poster, but I've had my package #6 long enough to have some questions.

What does the little scale marker mean? For example, when the scale is set for say .25 miles, does that mean the the little bar measures out .25 miles? If this is so, and the map is set to "heading up mode", what is the distance from the current position to the top of the map? I normally keep the scale set to .5 miles while traveling so the POI icons will show. In that case, what is the distance from the current position to the top of the map? This would be helpful to know when points of interest are just coming into view.

    Regards,

A good tip for when you want to know the distance to a poi is to touch the spot on the map and the display will show the distance to that spot. It gives the figure in airline miles but apparently that is not a problem for you. Do you fly for American? That should have been my career. oh well, building castles is cool too.

Can someone explain how to relate the scale e.g. 700 ft to what you see on the screen.

I believe that the numbers "700ft, .5 mile, 2 mile etc." relate to one visible inch on the MFD. So if your scale in 2 miles you can see about 6 miles ahead of you on the MFD

The scale represents the real distance represented by the length of the line under the scale size on the screen. This is less than one inch. (Maybe a cm, but I have not measured it.) I find that the distance between your location and the top of the screen in head up mode is about 5 times the scale. Frequently on long trips, I'll set the scale so that the next turn point is in the upper half of the screen. When it gets even with the top part of the distance/time block on the left, a zoom in will be about right.

I leave my NAV at the 700ft scale, since you can see things when they are about 1/2 mile away.

Nice if you need to locate a detour when a road turns up closed...

I'm not sure about the 05's, but on the 06 you will see a circle around your present location.
Inside the circle is a red triangle representing your direction of travel. The tip of the triangle (center of the circle) out to any edge matches the scale setting. Ie. if your scale setting is .5 miles, your circle covers 1 mile around the center of your vehicle. (1/2 mile behind you and 1/2 mile in front of you.)
