Kinda hot here in SoCal. Got back from two weeks out of town and heard a terrible noise when I turned the Prius on. Kind of a loud groaning sound, lasted about two seconds, quiet for two secs, then repeat three times. Then all quiet.

And no a/c. In a record-breaking heat wave.

The dealership in Hollywood says today (after taking two days last week to diagnose the problem) that the part's on a MONTH-LONG back-order.

    Anybody else have this esperience?

I don't think that a month's back-order is acceptable customer service. This is the first example of a Toyota failure that would make me hesitant to recommend a car I like otherwise very much.

I guess I'll save more on gas, since any non-essential trips in what is by any definition a rolling oven on wheels will be postponed.

Given the weather conditions, go back and demand a loaner car until yours is "drivable" again. Then we'll see how long it really takes to get a compressor...

A one month lead time would imply there isn't one in the country and it has to come from Japan. Hard to believe Toyota wouldn't stock such a part here. Have you checked with other dealers?

My assistant called all over the Los Angeles Basin and found one (one!) that I <strike>bullied</strike> cajoled the parts manager at Hollywood Toyota into acquiring.

Supposedly they will get it today and the repair take place tomorrow.

A one month backorder also implies that there is a problem with them and they're using up their replacements far quicker than expected.

Viking31 hit the nail on the head! Without that information we reeally do not know what the story is. I guess 1 month is still unreasonable though-the Prius just is not that old.
