you can find one in a salvage yard for well under 1000.and another 500 to install.. no need to put new parts in an old car

Out of curiosity, who ended up making the determination that the transmission needed to be replaced, and what did they tell you about the grounds for that conclusion?

Chow at the dealer when he was done diagnostic he told me that there where something internally wrong inside the transmission I called around I mean yeah I can get the transmission replaced but getting a good used one is 1 in a million.

Really? I don't think I'd ever herd that before. Prius transaxles (which are not anything like a transmission in their design and construction) very rarely fail. I'd think they'd be easy to get. Anyone parting out a totaled Prius should have one.

Mine's pretty good, but you can't have it.

I was hoping Chow might have mentioned what he did diagnostically that told him the problem was in the transaxle.

If the problem was in the MG2 stator, people have been known (in Gen 1 anyway, I don't know for sure about Gen 3) to just take off the end cover and replace just the stator; less labor. No luck if it's the MG1 stator though.

It's just that there are enough possibilities that (if it were my car) I would really want Chow's information, to follow along and be sure the conclusion is convincing.

Hey, off-topic, but does anybody know about the Gen 4 transmission, with the MGs now side by side, is it possible that both stators could now be replaceable through the end cover?
