What cars have you mistaken for a Prius? Sometimes with these new rounded body styles, it's hard to tell when they are coming at you. So far from what I can remember, I have seen a new style Sienna, and new style Civic and thought they were Prii at first.

    What about you?

My first week of owning the car, I walked up to a Matrix after a long day of work, and could not figure out why the Smartkey system wasn't working..... I finally looked through the window and saw a purse on the passenger seat... Ooops.... Felt like a total dumbass. My prius was just a few cars down... Damned gray Matrix!

The NEW Focus is the Prius-alike, surely? The Citroen C5 is also a ringer, and to a lesser extent, the Audi A2

Naw- we don't have the cool new Focus like you folks do! We got a toned down version in '05- I do not know why! :(

I always have to look for the little vent to know if something is a Classic Prius or an Echo. If I owned a Classic, maybe I'd be better able to tell the difference. As it is, I agree with sl7vk that I often have to look twice at Matrices.

I haven't mistaken any car for a Prius yet. I have mistaken Mazda3s for the new Camry.

Yes, Toyota must have had a Hyundai moment, copying another car's look haha!

Actually, Mazda copied Toyota. We think Toyota copied Mazda because we got the Mazda 3 then the Camry. Apparently, this grill design was on Toyotas before Mazda unveiled the Mazda3 (Mazda Axela)

I had the Echo problem until just recently when I was able to really pinpoint the obvious differences of the hood shape and, of all things, the door handles. If you see the battery vent on the side, it's definitely a Prius. If you see a 2-door model, it's definitely an Echo. There are also color differences; the easiest being that if you see a red model, it's an Echo (as there was no Gen1 Prius in red).

Never had a problem with the Matrix though...

There are so many Echoes in the same colour as my Classic, I get tripped up all the time. In Houston, we have tons of both (lots of Classics were purchased by the city works, and I work very close to their parking lot).

I don't remember WHICH cars I have had to look at twice...but once I THINK I know what I'm seeing, I automatically look for the roof grooves as confirmation...Do any of the others have those?

The first gen looks identical to an Echo to me, but gen 2? No way. Nothing looks like it.

There are some cars that I see "in motion" that at first glance I think is a Prius- the Aztek has gotten me a couple of times EEK!
