A couple of newbie T4 questions

    I've only owned the car a couple of weeks and it stood in the dealers for quite a while before that.

    Q1, My brakes are noisy, not screechy metal to metal noisy but rubbing noisy. There's no dust anywhere and the brakes are fine even under heavy braking but when I brake I can hear them. Looking at the discs through the wheel they seem ok. Driving is fine, mostly just tyre noise so is this normal or shall I check?

    Q2, I thought the T4 had heated door mirrors that worked with the rear screen. Demisting the rear screen (which worked ok) the door mirrors stayed misted up so I had to wipe them. Are they not heated?

    Hi bisco,
    Just gone over 61k. Ten Toyota stamps in the book. I started to log in to My Toyota but haven't received the log book back yet from the change of ownership. As soon as I do I'll look to see the history.

    brakes should be like new at that mileage, but they require proper inspection and lubrication every 30k, so it might be worth having them looked at.

    the rotors can rust overnight and cause a scraping sound the next day until it wears off, or you can throw it in neutral to neutralize regen for a minute, and let the pads wear the rust off.

    Thanks if the weather stays ok I can check them myself. I presume they should be silent like any other car. Yes I read about 200k cars on their original brakes. Incredible.

    Fairly sure they were not on the UK Gen 2.
    This can be quite severe on UK cars, particularly if the roads are salted/gritted in winter. Also the rear disks (rotors) are more affected than the front ones.
    If the disks are severely rusted and pitted this can be less effective, particularly on the rear disks.

    Listening today I'm fairly convinced it's the rear brakes that are noisy so will check them out.
