Hey guys! I was given a 2005 prius with over 235,000 miles on it back in October. I drove it from St Louis back to Lynchburg Va and it did amazing! It now has about 254,100 miles and is still running strong. I want to keep her alive as long as I can. The most I’ve spent in gas to fill up was about 15 bucks and I average around 45 mpg. What are some suggestions for maintenance since this has so many miles?

Welcome! Do you have the manual? In it you will find the regular & important stuff. Mostly, oil changes. Some of the Prius will go over 300K on the original traction packs before they need to be rebuilt. Even then, you would primarily notice a drop in MPG.

    Welcome!
I work in Lynchburg and live just south in Evington!
@Raytheeagle and @danlatu are a couple of the experts here. In addition to what they would recommend for the mechanicals,
I think a Prolong battery conditioning system from Hybrid Automotive is useful to extend the life of the large traction battery. @jeff652 is a trusted user here. If you are a college student, that may be too much to consider right now.

I’m a recent grad, started my job in may but I may consider that to keep her going. The battery was apparently changed out in 2013 at 116,000 miles

Thanks for the welcome! Yes I have a manual and I’ve been thumbing through it. The only thing I need to look into is changing out the spark plugs. I got a code for multiple random misfires which usually only happen when it’s freezing and I let the heat run in the morning before going to work, other than the headache of having to get my right taillight replace, everything has been smooth sailing

I almost forgot. The local dealer, Oak Ridge Toyota is not good for sales or service. I only go there for recall work or to look at a car before buying elsewhere.

My preferred dealer is in Manassas near DC. My preferred salesman still drives a 2002 Prius. The price savings and better experience are worth the 150 mile trip.

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

As others have said, confirm it is a new Toyota battery and if it is, you’re good for a fair bit of time:).

Random misfires could be spark plugged or COPS, when was the last spark plug change out?

    Keep us posted (y).
