Textured ABS, sized and angled to rear bumper contours, 12" long, from 2" to 4" deep fins, angled ~30 degrees outward from vertical. Uses factory 8mm push-rivet location at rear of wheel well liner/bumper cover and drilled for 8mm push-rivet on under-surface of bumper cover, with 3M VHT tape between bumper cover and fin mounting base

    Why?

Not that in the rain I'd not like the effect as the car behind you.

Why? Because scrap ABS sheet, design skills and mimicking Gen2/Gen3 rear aero treatment..

Haven't had it in the rain yet. Can't comment.

400 miles of very stable, higher than normal highway speed, half in rain, with higher than normal MPG, suggest this was a success.

Not to mention, don't believe I'll have to lift at the kink on the Mulsanne...

Forgive my ignorance. What's the intended outcome? Has it been successful?

    Increased mpg is interesting.
    Airboss = wind tunnel employee?

Seems to me these add on could effect air coming if tires and air coming off rear door/ rocker/ hubcap.
But as a diffuser there seems to be a lack of drawing air from the undercarriage.
Further seems to me the current under chassis air is being trapped under the rear bumper creating lift.

But my statements hold little weight...no wind tests to confirm.

Never the less, looks good and works for OP.

Thanks. The rear of the ventral fins are canted a bit wide of fore-aft, creating a modest diffuser (and vortex generation). Full belly pan would reduce drag, but be difficult to achieve in practice. Most of what you see as aftermarket 'diffusers' reach only 8-12" ahead of bumper face and probably create more of a 'parachute effect' than pre-existed. Venting the rear bumper (cut outs where retro-reflectors are factory located or dimple die cuts in the bumper face) would solve most of the entrapment -- at the cost of a bumper.

Are these the same diffuser fins that may be found on ebay?

I looked at what was available and concluded a well-designed and engineered DIY would look better, mount more stably and less visibly, and actually be functional. So, no.

So what would the pros/cons of these diffuser fins set to a 90 degree angle from their base be if the fin is aligned with the inside of the back tire instead of the curve of the side of the bumper, ala the attached image (I apologize for my weak MS Paint-fu and use of a 3G instead of a V).? If memory serves correctly the 2G had rear lower bumper spats which roughly aligned with the inside of the rear tires.

I'm far from an aero-engineer, but I would visualize the above as assisting with the air coming off/around the tire vs the air flowing beneath the car, while said car is at speed? Would this setup be detrimental to the airflow coming off the side of the car as it is not a full wedge like a 2G? I'm not worried about the guy behind me in the rain catching spray- he or she can back off some.

    Thoughts?

The photo perspective doesn't really describe what is going on, which is as you mention, both a wheel and undertray flow management device.

"Textured ABS, sized and angled to rear bumper contours, 12" long, from 2" to 4" deep fins, angled ~30 degrees outward from vertical."

In context, here, "bumper contour" (bottom) in the vertical plane slopes up, while the fins become deeper, and the outward fin angle creates a winglet-like strake that manages airflow around and behind the tire. Could have left these vertical (90 degrees, like the 2G) but the canting makes the fins more active as flow managers and vortex generators. The bumper bottom is well inboard of the outside of tire, so placing a vertical fin there makes it inactive from the perspective of flow alongside the tire and bumper.

"The rear of the ventral fins are canted a bit wide of fore-aft, creating a modest diffuser (and vortex generation)."

Again, in context, the "bumper contour" (side) in the horizontal plane narrows a bit, while the fins are canted outward a bit more than that, I believe wider than the 2G, creating a modest diffuser.

The 3G does, from your photo, have a full belly pan, but the v does not. Would be nice to have, but Toyota hasn't made it easy on the v. No obvious attachment points, for starters.

Within the "WAG" of desktop design parameters and unknown manufacturer baseline aero flow data, your idea works as well as mine.

So get to it, and report back!

Ok, so I picked these up on eBay, this thread was actually the inspiration. 12" ABS with textured outside and smooth inside, angled fin to baseplate which can be bent from obtuse to 90 degrees with heat gun application.

I concede the V is different underneath than my G3 with which the pics were taken but lets see how this looks. Trimming of the diffuser bases will be required once a suitable fitment is found.

    Unmounted diffusers: Diff 1.png
Right side aligned with inside edge of bumper and tire:
    Diff inside 1.png

Left side almost aligned with inside edge of bumper and tire thanks to gorilla tape losing its stickiness:
    Diff inside 2.png
Left side shown with existing fin:
    Diff inside 3.png

Both sides aligned inside (apologies for fuzziness, didn't catch this until after everything was put up)
    Diff inside both.png
Diffuser aligned to the outside of the tire and edge of bumper... kind of Fast & Furious and will likely hurt aero:

Nicely done. Last photo looks like the rear diffuser undertray of a GTLM car.

    Here's your class sticker.
