posting for a friend that doesn't have access to Priuschat.

Her 2007 Prius with 130,000 miles has the dreaded Brake Actuator Failure. Dealer wants $2200 to fix.

In addition to calling Tampa Hybrids for a recommendation, anyone know of a central Florida area repair shop that does good work for less?

    Thanks!

    Diagnosis was correct?

Another way to look at this repair is in terms of amoritization miles/years/day.
    $2200/130,000miles = $0.0169/mile
    $2200/ 11yrs (2018-2007) = $200/year
    $200/yr / 365days/yr = $0.547/day
    Pricey, but relative.

With the gas savings, she should be putting some money aside for future repairs/the unexpected.
If she goes to Starbucks weekly, one less visit a week would have paid for this repair and then some.

The car has a lot of life left in terms of mileage, if it has been well maintianed. What is her game plan when the HV Battery fails? $1600+ OEM Part if you can find a dealer who sells online, and will sell to the public, or a dealer who will match the Genuine Toyota dealer online prices. Labor will be pricey as you know.

    Good luck in your search.

Thanks @exstudent ! What she decided to to was bite the bullet and have Toyota do the repair. And to save the receipts in case Toyota is forced to issue another warranty extension or a recall as detailed here.

She's already gotten the combo meter fixed, and has had one HV battery failure - we replaced the failed module but she knows she'll be on the hook for a new HV battery in the reasonably near future. But like you point out, the car should easily go another 100,000+ miles, so in the overall view it's not that expensive.

    Again, thanks for your input.

Call Toyota corporate and ask about a goodwill warranty as it recently expired back in December.

If she does not know to check the engine oil level periodically, more frequent is better, make her start.

Too many posts of people wondering about an intermittent Master Warning light (Red Triangle w/ ! inside the triangle) that see,s to appear when braking or taking a turn.

Gen2 Prius are known to burn oil. Her's has probably started just before or just after 100K miles; annecdotal evidence.
