I took a road trip from Cupertino, CA to Los Angeles : about 350+ miles of freeway. I've never driven so long ever before : so was pretty scared the night before! Travellers : me, my wife, our 4 year Son

But man! Once you hit the road with the PiP - the car just does its thing. And i was so happy concluding the 1st leg of this trip. I averaged 58 MPG without resorting to any special hypermiling techniques! I just drove like normal : EV in city and HV on Freeway.

I also learnt how to drive with radar controlled cruise control. Once i got the hang of it, it was such a joy to drive this car! You just control the steering, car computer does everything else dor you! Wow! The MPG increased by 1-3 when computer controlled everything, instead of me hitting breaks & acceleration! Regen from cruise control isnt that effective as you doing it manually : but then, i wanted the car to do it's thing :)

I wonder how amazing it would be to drive with Radar assisted lane driving!

When I ended the 1st leg, the EV : Gasoline usage is still that I dont understand. The ratios dont add up to my total distance travelled. I did 366 miles in total, but the EV+HV ratio chart shows much more! What's going on there? I think I'm not reading it correctly!

    I'm so glad, i bought a PiP :)

I just drove my first trip also

I loved being able to regen 10 km going down a mountain!!

And radar cruise control is lovely indeed :)

I noticed worse acceleration compared to regular prius. I wonder why, as with more electric power available, they could have made it faster!

Congratulations. I'm glad you guys like your PiPs as much as I like mine. I'll chime in on a couple questions.

I've noticed the same thing with mine. So far, I haven't found an answer. I finally decided it wasn't a big deal and just enjoy the calculations I do when I figure my cost per mile. After almost 15 months and 20,000 miles, I'm averaging 3.6 cents per mile. My last tank was 3.06 cents per mile. I've spent $686 on gas and electricity since I got it. Over 25% of that was on a 2,200+ mile trip to Ohio.

I haven't driven a regular Gen 3, but I'd be surprised if the PiP accelerates much worse. The heavier battery will slow it a tiny bit. MG2 and the ICE are same size on both and I think the wires are the same size. Those are the main limiting factors on acceleration.

Congrats on your vehicle, you and I both got used Advance’s lol. I feel like the PiP really complements certain personalities. Had mine for about 2.5 years and still love it- these things last forever. You’ll be modding it in no time lol

Feels slower and definitely the accelerator is mapped differently

The 40kg extra weight should not make that much of a difference, it's just like empty / full tank

I love my PIP its a 2013 base, but has all the features i need and oddly enough it was cheaper then a Prius 3. When I was shopping around and get more goodies as well. I even swapped to an android phone so the entune with Pandora worked with out having to plug in my Iphone to the car for it to work! Being I live in a small town the battery size is all I need. I think last year I only filled up on gas about 4 times and that was going out of town to Birmingham AL. To visit family. Also love the room!! Have been able to fit anything in this car, Fit a rolled up California King memory foam matrices and still had a foot to spare! I am really amazed by these cars. I thought I was going to hate it, being i always drive sports cars before this, but it has exceeded my wildest expectations and continues to impress me!!

Just to give you a list of the cars I have had before this to put it in perspective. 2000 mustang, 2007 Tiburon GT limited, 2007 Mustang, 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP and no a 2013 Plug in Prius.

In the return journey from LA to Cupertino, i started with just 2.3 EV miles but re-generated enough for the city drive :)

On this return journey, drove almost exclusively with radar cruise control and averaged 61 mpg :D

This is crazy good by all standards :)

I agree, trunk space is so good in this car, my son loves sitting in the trunk while having his breakout meals :)

I just wish, this car had Android car system!

Managed to get 84 mpg today in a drive of 30 miles, all city driving, easy on accelerator, no highways.

    Wow!

Cool!! Was that using EV range or strictly in Hybrid mode? In 20-35 mph zones, you can get outrageous mileage even in HV mode. I only get a few blocks of that per trip here.

Mixed. Reached on EV till 5-6 miles is left on battery. Then HV. Shift back to EV when miles left to travel is less than the EV miles.

Me too, what I try to do is use HV for going up hills, then switch back.
