Why don't they have the paperwork? It all has to do with getting codes from the manufacturer. And it all has to do with who absorbs the expense of the lifetime power-train warranty and the expense of what were possibly hours of trying to diagnose. I'm sure they didn't like it because I'll bet they are reimbursed on a book basis and not on the basis of actual hours expended.

I got the plock message on my car this morning. I have the dashboard mostly disassembled including the trim piece that holds the start button and the park switch. I needed to roll a window down so I temporarily plugged in just the start button leaving the parking switch disconnected. As soon as I pushed the button (foot off the brake) I got the plock error.

I know they already replaced your parking switch, but it might be worth making sure that the other end of that harness is fully seated or just replace the harness.

For the record, my pLock issue seemed to have been solved and did not reoccur for at least a year and 10k miles I had the car. I eventually sold it and bought a Rav4 hybrid which gets just about the same MPG but is larger in all areas except the back seat legroom. 5.8k miles on it, no issues. Quieter. Much much more power. Lots of electronic nannies I wanted.

For the next few people reading, the transmission control ECU really will tell you why it is saying "P lock error" if you connect a proper scan tool and ask it. There are a variety of possible reasons; yours might not be the same as somebody else's.

    ChapmanF,

Does it have to be in pLock error mode to give that code with the scan?

If so why did my dealer take 4 tries before happening on someone who knew someone who helped with the repair? The car was in the shop for days each time and I was talking with the service tech, the repair manager, etc. It was frequently hooked up to the computer.

They even greet me by name...
