I was just wondering if anyone else who may have purchased the BT Tech rear spoiler which attaches to the rear glass has had a problem with it remaining adhered to the glass, flat. Mine would not stay attached on the ends, say the last 3-4 inches. They would lift off the glass and sit away from the glass by approximately 3/8". It may seem like no big deal, but to me it looked bad. I contacted Brian at BT Tech and he promptly sent me a new adhesive kit to re-install the spoiler. When I removed the spoiler I saw it had a BMW part number on it. Not a big deal so long as it fits. I re-installed it and it immediately lifted on the ends again. I lived with it like that for several months but after several people commented that my spoiler was coming off I had to remove it. I have e-mailed Brian on 2 occassions since then to tell him of my experience and have never received a reply at all.

I now have the spoiler sitting on a shelf in my garage and really miss it on the back of my car. But I will not re-install a spoiler that does not fit correctly. The shape of the spoiler seems to be wrong as it does not lay flat on the glass. The spoiler should not have to be forced to conform to the curve of the rear glass with super strength tape- the tape should be solely for the purpose of attaching the spoiler, not changing the shape of it.

I just wanted to put my personal experience out there. Am I the only one that had this problem?

What were the instructions with regard to temperature? Moisture or dust? On another post I recall the 'modder' mentioning that he/she waited almost a month just for the right conditions, etc.

Brian includes his contact information in his signature.

    Did you try calling him?

The conditions were correct for installation, it was over 75 degrees out, the surface was correctly prepared, etc. I know if you try to do that kind of install when it is cold out or excessively hot, it may not work properly.

I have spoken with Brian about it on the phone in the past and left one telephone message. The most recently communications were via e-mail. I may try to call Brian again. He has always been a terrific guy and I love the frame brace/plate I got from him. I am not trying to slam him; I am just trying to see if by chance my spoiler is somehow a defective casting or something like that. Hence the question anyone else have that problem?

Yes I have had the same problem, twice. Once with the original installation and once with the repair kit Brian sent me. Both times I followed the instructions to the letter, in fact the second time I was even more careful to get things exactly right.

I had an email from Brian on June 29 and he understands the problem. He said he had a new "prep pad" which he would be testing soon and if it works he would send it out.

Hello everyone. I am currently waiting to receive another 3m product that will strengthen the bond for mounting the spoiler on the glass. I should have these by next week.

To further prevent any lifting 3m has recommended that after the spoiler is attached to the glass that we take a small bead of clear silicone and seal the lip of the spoiler to the glass. This will prevent any water or contaminents from getting under the spoiler that can lead to loss of adhesion.

I will keep everyone updated as soon as I receive these products.

    Brian,

I tried to call you but you are blocking my mobile phone because I don't deliver caller ID. Do you have a toll-free number I can call from my home phone, or a website, or an email address? Do you have pics of the rear spoiler? It is not in the Priuschat store any longer.

    Thanks!

Dial *82 first to disable the caller ID block on a per call basis.

Well, I'm really glad I haven't reinstalled my spoiler yet.

Yes, the first time I installed it it lifted on the ends pretty soon. I e-mailed Brian and he sent out the reinstall kit. But it was too cold, then too hot, when I had time to do it. The temp is right this week and I've got the time, but I'm still not going to reinstall it. Not if I'm going to have to take it off and do it a third time.

So if Brian is reading this thread, whatever fix you've got in the works, I'll need one too.

If it lifts after the second install, I'm through with it.

(Is there any way to make the ends bend to conform to the glass before it's installed? That would certainly discourage the lifting.)

I've got the problem too. Surprisingly, the spoiler stayed down during the winter. With warmer weather, the ends have come loose. I used the glass prep when I installed it and it was fine for months. It looks like the adhesive tape is stuck to the glass at the ends where I clamped it during installation, and has released from the spoiler itself.

Looking forward to your fix, Brian!
