Looking for electronic copy of '06 owners manual

Lot's of them on ebay. Search for prius manuals. But query the seller since some, advertised as covering 04, 05, 06 only cover 04 models

The manuals I looked at are on CDROM. The particular seller has these available with USPS shipping or internet download with no shipping charge

AFAIK, the only legitimate electronic version you can get is from TIS. Each section can be dowloaded as a PDF, and then you can assemble a single PDF using Acrobat (or your favorite software).

 

I believe that by not having an on-line version of the Owners Manual Toyota is doing itself a disservice.
I would have liked to get hold of a manual prior to ordering a Prius but could not. All I wanted to know what was in the car and how easy were the features to use. The dealer told me a list of features but that left me confused because I thought my car, being top of the range, would have the same features as the US model - not so.
Then when I did order I thought it would be a good idea to read the manual before taking delivery so that I could operate the vehicle without confusion.
I had told the salesman that I wanted 1 month's notice of of the delivery date so that I could sell the car I owned. Well I did not receive any notice and as a consequence the Prius sat in the dealership for 3 weeks while I tried to offload my gas guzzler.
I did, however, take a trip to inspect my new beauty and came away with the manual. Just as well I did, because being an old fogy I would have had considerable problems if I had not understood some of the car's systems in advance.
Being a new technology vehicle at first it did make me nervous and it was with some intrepidity that I drove home from the dealership - a situation that would have been much more traumatic without the pre-read.
Oh dear, I must be getting old.

Actually, I think your approach is extremely sensible.

Toyota is doing itself a disservice. For all those people who genuinely want to know about the car they are about to purchase/purchasing, it makes enormous sense to have an online (read: searchable) manual.

How many people actually take the time to read manuals, Usenet, forums, etc. to become acquainted with whatever technology they intend to purchase, be it iPods or cars? For many, it's far easier to call someone on their cell phone.

Don't worry. You're not getting old - no more than I am or rest of us. You're merely displaying laudable self-reliance. Bonus points for that.

Why count on someone else to educate you when you can do that (thank you very much!) for yourself?

Uh, guys? Hello? You CAN get the manual in advance, from Toyota, online. Go to the TIS website: http://techinfo.toyota.com/. For $10, you get a whole day to download any Toyota/Lexus publications you want. Electronic and legal.

And to be quite honest, judging by the number of questions on this website that are easily answered by reading the Owner's Manual, I doubt that many of the people who have access to a manual are even using it.

 

How about the Web version? Create an account at http://mytoyota.toyotaownersonline.com/. You can see maintainence guide/plan and you can even enter service records like you would write down in hard copy.

If you want full day for 10 bucks you can also down load the entire service manual. Go legal not a big deal and it gives you a smug feeling.

Yeah, but Toyota's interface to the manual sections is absolutely
horrid. It's actually run by Snap-on Tools, and their people *know*
it sucks but they won't consider changing it last I knew.

a lot easier, but you still need the subscription to actually get
the PDFs. [the sites wants a time-based cookie whose encryption
particulars I didn't manage to figure out.] And that's only for
the '04, not the '06.
