Got the rear brakes all back together and they are greased. The last issue before I can bleed the brakes is that the hard rear line on the passenger side failed inspection due to rust. When I unhooked the rubber hose from the hard line that runs to the engine bay just a little stress and it broke. The break is 3-5 cm from the end. What should I do?

    1. Install a new long hard line from rear to engine bay? (I already got a new one from Toyota which I should of waited to pickup until I pulled the line out of the car. It looks like a big pain to run a new one and get access to the brake pump.)

    2. Cut a little more off the line past the rust and put a new connector on and then get another hose or small 5-6 cm extension. (I have not made brake line before but does not look too hard, just might have to buy some tools.)

    3. Other options I am not thinking of?

It seems crazy to run a new hard line when only the last 5 cm or so is rusted. I wonder if #2 would even pass inspection. I could ask the local shop. Has anyone ran new hard lines before how did it go?

You do have Techstream software needed for bleeding the brakes? Rear brakes are not connected directly to brake pedal in any condition so old fashioned bleed methods don’t work.

    1. You get a lot better access if you remove the cowl from the Prius. That’s a pretty simple job: Prius heat-efficiency mods Use a line wrench when undoing it as you really don’t wont to strip the head.

    2. You would be adding an extra connection to the brake line. I don’t think it passes the inspection if they see it. If you still decide to do this flare the end of the line and use proper connector. Compression fittings can just open under pressure. Also the good connection point probably not 5cm from the end. You need to find really good point on the line to connect to.
