This is my first Prius, but I tend to agree with you. I sure am disappointed with all the recalls, and technical service bulletin, and all the various strange glitches.

I keep finding my car unlocked in the morning. And I know darn well I locked it. I heard the locks slide forward and I heard the beep…

And look at all the complaints and issues being posted about the new Prime already. Who is in charge of quality control at Toyota!?

    +1

It's not very effective, but Toyota does have a customer care branch.

Recalls and TSBs are all part of the fun of being out on the sharp end of the spear by getting a first year model, but I would be rather aggressive in resolving the door lock issue.
That's pretty non-trivial, even in more gentile places in SoCal.
Start a different thread and lets do some troubleshooting......... ;)

    oh....YES!
They care in the same way that Chipotle cares about whether or not their employees wash their hands when they're done with certain paperwork.......and for the same reason.

    It's never the crime.
    It's always the cover-up.

    BUT(!!!!!!)
For every 10 people who eats tainted food and spends the night looking at the pattern on the floor in their bathroom, how many actually try to figure out who used the secret salmonella sauce on their food?
    All 10?
Do....say.........10 out of 10 actually try to even get a refund for the meal?
    Not usually.
USUALLY, the folks at dot.gov have to track THEM down to figure out where it all got started.

I'm NOT unbiased towards Toyota dealerships, or dealer maintenance departments in general....but sometimes you have to take the fight to THEM.
Have you filed a vehicle complaint with the nice folks at dot.gov (which in THIS case REALLY IS dot.gov!)
    File a Vehicle Safety Complaint | Safercar.gov | NHTSA
    Who owns the dealer?
Do they know about the problem?

If I had the OP's car?
I would be the dealer's social media nightmare, and I would call, text, fax, mail postcards, post letters to the editor, and maybe even rent out space on an electronic billboard close to the dealer with an updating daily count (65 DAYS......SINCE MY BRAND NEW 2016 PRIUS BROKE!!!) Maybe with a picture of an open car door and a baby seat sitting on the road next to the car.... :D

You might also have an actionable case in small claims.

Not so much where it's built, as who sold it.

i had almost zero problems with my first year gen 2 2004. and not only that, it was really a completely new car compared to the gen 1.
right through our 2005 camry, toyota's were nearly bulletproof, at least for us. there was a guy who used to complain that his pick up engine sludged up.
but since then, it's just one problem after another.

I valued the hyped reliability above the gas mileage for this car. CR rates it highly. So far, I haven't had any issues. I did get a recall notice for my parking brake one week after I had already had it taken care of. ;)

I thought I had a problem last night.

I pulled into carport, turned off, opened door and a continuous beeeeeeep. I closed the door, opened again, beeeeeeep. Got out, closed door - stopped. Today, same thing every time I got out.

Looking at the dash, all it told me (Bright RED) was that my driver's door was open. I could open any door, except the driver's. I could lock the car, the headlights turned off as normal after 30 seconds.

    Think - problem.

UNTIL ... today, after getting in and out and enduring the beeeeeeep at least ½ dozen times, I noticed that I had the HEADLIGHTS ON. I'd had them on AUTO, but reversing out of Mum's driveway, they shone in her eyes so I turned them to PARK LIGHTS, when I got on the street, I turned them back to AUTO ... except the WRONG WAY - to ON instead.

They still turned off after 30 seconds like they do in AUTO - HMMM, why? And the AUTO High Beam had worked properly too. I wondered why it didn't tell me that my lights were on rather than my door open. When I looked closely again today, there was a tiny, almost inconsequential (against the BIG RED DOOR OPEN sign) orange upload_2017-1-6_16-35-14.png icon.

    I'll know next time.

This situation happened to me yesterday with my 2016 base two . I was driving very areas overly and noticed the water temp was up at 198 (basic scangage channel so assuming ICE). Battery went to 1 bar and took FOREVER to recover. This morning it behaved normally. Also, pickup from a dead stop was sluggish and not smooth initially, almost like a clutch slipping...probably the effect of getting variable torque from the traction motor. Once it got going, it went fine, with modes switching between hybrid and gas only, with more time in the latter. Charging or lackthereof Llkely due to battery/ inverter temp after repeated aggressive acceleration over a 15 -20 mile stretch on 2 lane moderately hilly terrain.

Has your car had the software update mentioned in post #73 above? If not, your dealer should be able to install it at no charge.
