They're useless unless you have DC charging.

    Most BEVs do.
So does the Outlander PHEV. I suspect other PHEVs will start getting the option as the chargers become for available, but low fuel prices in the US has made offering such an easy cut to get the MSRP down.

It is strange, but I was sent a message awhile back that there were 3 new 50KW chademo/ccs chargers - one downtown by the reclaimed coal power plant on electric drive, one by a mall, and one at wall mart. The mall made perfect sense, walmart confused me, but perhaps the city (it ownes the municipal utility) and vw paid for it, so why not take it walmart. I doubt it will get major use, but it is by a highway, and there is fast food all around that location.

I pulled in to get gas today and happened to count the number of pumps at my station of choice. 20, 4 of which are diesel. So that leaves me 16 choices to have a slot to refill my mileage potential and they are occupied for maybe 10 minutes. So always available and I can offload any excess liquid in the time it takes to fill the car (6-8 gallons doesn't take that long). There are 3500+ Walmart Supercenters so this is a drop in the bucket compared to the potential need to make charging equivalently convenient looking out 5 years.

It's cheaper and easier to do than building hydrogen infrastructure.

Not wise to leave the gas pump unattended while filling.

When my wife is with me, we take turns. And since I generally get only 6 to 8 gallons of gas, it doesn't take long.

I think I probably pumped my first gas into a car something over 60 years ago <grin>. Front trunk, rear trunk, front cowl, left rear, right rear right front, behind the rear license plate. Even tanks with no fuel pumps, gravity.

And they'll install them at the front (for PR) where there's the greatest chance of being ICE'd.

Put them at the back of the lot, then only those who NEED a charge will use them and not just hog a spot for convenience. Besides, walking is good for you.

    Agree!

...and for the record, I could retire "very" comfortably right now...but I still shop at Walmart. Why should the Posers get all the toys?

They likely go in the front for the lower installation price. Level 2 chargers might be able to run on the parking lot light circuit, but not fast DC.
