You'll soon be seeing an entirely new kind of license plate. For those of you who are tired of the mundane prison made stamped tin plate, there's this!

Just the thing for the uber hip, and those who have way too much money!!!
    $699, plus a $7/month service charge.....

    I'll pass, for now!
They should pay me to sport their new digital plate!
If it flys in California, watch out, the rest of the world is next!

i could not agree more. wave my registration fees in exchange to sport one and i would. also it is my car and my plate so i want complete control on what and how it display's. for example, i dont want it to die and get pulled over with ticket for "no plate on vehicle." or be able to turn off the amber alerts. Theirs too many distractions on the road already with out truing my private car on a public road in to a billboard.

    Boy I'm just getting old.
But why do I find myself just liking the old way?
What was wrong with a thin piece of metal? I've always kind of enjoyed buying a license plate frame, trying to keep the licence looking good, and even the ritual of replacing the tags.

Does everything have to become electronic?

And then my "Big Brother" fear, is how far removed is this from licence plates that can instantly report information about you? How far removed from the ability to send a signal that makes the licence plate say, " Stolen "...is the ability for the licence plate to say..."Expired Insurance" or "Behind on Payments" or god forbid, "Exceeding Speed Limit". Yeah, I'm being paranoid and I'm 1/2 kidding. But only 1/2 kidding.

These licence plates make so much sense from a convenience standpoint, that I would assume it or something very much like it could be the future.

But for me? Leave me old school with embossed tin.

Why do WE need to pay for this? It will help DMV with costs, no more stickers, less employees, less overhead.
