Love my Prius Prime But I think I love this more.......

    How is the leg support in the Model 3 for the rear seat compare to the Prime's? I have been invited to configure but I'm still on the fence. The rear seat leg support looks terrible!

    Best to determine on your own families height. At 6'-5" . . . . both are unsatisfactory .... for MEEEEEEEEE
    (but i'm an outlier - so it would be lame for me to drone on about how horrible the rear leg room is )

    In my state and a lot of the surrounding states it looks like the price per kWh charge would be about 10-15 cents per kWh making the cost per mile about 3 cents per mile :) (at Superchargers)

    There is not a lot of height to the base of the back seat.
    I am not sure how that translates to “support”. They are very nice seats, front and back.

    Unfortunately I have not sat in the back seat of a Prime.

    Only if they are charging faster than 60kW, on average. The taper charge at the end slows things down a lot and every video I watched about this the charge rates peaked at about 105kW and most peaked about 90kW.

    The average is 13,500 miles / year and I drove 13,500 last year. I'd call that about average, by inspection.

    I had my Model S for a year with no issues. But when it went out of warranty, the enjoyment of ownership was drastically reduced

    If the large TFT screen breaks .....$9,700 replacement.

    Pesky door handles? $950.00 out of pocket

    My Tesla was perfect, I felt I was driving a Faberge Egg, not enjoyable, to insure $1,800 a year perfect record.

    Waiting for parts for a Tesla can take up to 3 months so if you have body damage expect to drive the car with that body damage until the part comes in. Plus a member of the Tessa Club had a one and a half foot crease on his rear quarter panel and the cost to repair was over $13,000.

    I ended up getting the prime because you can still have fun with electricity but not have the worry of a super luxury car like a Tesla... 20180324_171421.jpg

    So true!! ... we waited for 3 months for a headliner to come in. Boy .... were WE ever whine-ie babies when THAT happened. Then again ... we waited almost 3 months when our Prius MFD failed. Unlike the headliner in the X, when the Prius MDF died ... it took the car out. Red triangle of death. Fortunately is was under warranty too .... as it's ANOTHER expensive thing to buy.
    Aren't we glad we weren't alive in the first couple years of the model T? One might not only be stuck not able to find gas ... if you threw a rod, you'd probably wait FOUR months to get a part into Cali ... then have NO one who knew how to fix it. Gues that proves we're just a bunch of snow flakes.

    Deja vu! I could have taken an almost-identical picture yesterday morning: Somebody at my office just got a white Model 3, and I charged my Blizzard-Pearl Prius Prime right next to it!

    Anyway, congratulations! That’s totally awesome!

    I’m on the list for one too, but my wife hates the screen, and wants to get an SUVish sort of thing instead. Plus of course we have a 1-year-old P.Prime, along with a 2009 Prius still in good-working order. So, we might wait the Model Y instead...

    Hoping the Y will have an upper 300's or even 400 mile pack. If so, we may opt for the short range pack on the 3. I assume they will announce details on the Y before we have a chance to configure the 3.

    I’m not sure how much value that would have for us at least. We’re at well over 90% EV on our 6KWh (effectively) Prius Prime.

    However, for a pure EV, the longest trip we make at all frequently is just under 200 miles, and there’s a Supercharger, and at least one CHAdeMO station, on that route. So a 310-mile Model 3 would be plenty for our needs.

    In fact, we don’t take that trip very often — 2 or 3 times a year, so a 220-mile Model 3 might even be sufficient, as long as that Supercharger stays open. We’d have to stop for 20 minutes or so on-route, just as a precaution, but 4-6 times per year (round trip)? Maybe not such a huge concern...

    However, that’s just us, of course.

    Hummmm, I could visit the local Super Charger depot and park the Prius Prime next to the various Tesla models that show up. Only there would be a small gas can next to the Prius with the Tesla super charger cable in the background.

    First, I will note that I am the last person to defend Tesla after my relatively poor ownership experience. That said - to be fair, rear quarter panel damage on any car is going to be a relatively expensive proposition because it involves cutting out the panel and re-welding it. This goes twice for an aluminum-bodied car.

    I'd argue that it's not a matter of Tesla being a super-luxury car (because it simply isn't), it's a matter of them having what seems to me like extraordinarily poor parts supply chain management.

    Very different-looking too. I personally overall like the Model 3’s appearance considerably better than the P.Prime, but the P.Prime’s has grown on me.

    Yeah, would also appreciate a writeup about Model 3 vs Prime too! I own a prime and Tesla recently sent me an email saying I could configure my Model 3. However, I didn't do it as I love the prime (mostly) and its 30 mile EV range is perfect for my commute (on avg. I fill up tank only every 1.5-2 months), and I don't have to pay thousands to convert circuit to 240V. Prime's much cheaper than the $49K M3 offered now (if you go for $35K, estimate is late 2018, and could be even later). So I am thinking of getting refund on my M3 deposit, unless current M3 owner can elaborate how much better it is than prime.
