My first tank was good but not great.

    Miles driven = 308

    Gallons used = 7.3

    Calc. miles = 42.2

    Display miles = 40.9

You may not be jazzed, but keep in mind that's more than twice what many cars on the road can get.

It'll get better as you get better at driving the Prius and it gets broken in. We had around 45 MPG at first on average, now we're around 56+ MPG, possibly hitting 60 this tank.

We've had our Prius 9 days so far. We've used about a half a tank of gas (according to the gas gague) and have traveled about 288 miles, with the MFD reporting the mileage average for this tank at 46.5 so far. Being in the mountains of north carolina, and since its a brand new car and I'm just learning how to drive it, I'm very very happy with the mileage so far. I won't be able to get a calculated MPG on this tank since the dealer filled it up when we bought it, i don't know how full he got it, or how much he put in it, i'll have to go with the MFD mpg.

Very interesting! I took delivery of my 2006 on July 19, and I've seen virtually the same numbers. I've driven nearly the same amount of miles on the same amount of gas. I'm confident that the dealership gave me a full tank: I drove about 92 miles before the first bar on the fuel gauge dropped off.

If the tank is full the first bar takees a while to drop off.....it seems like after that first bar they start to drop off a lot faster. On my first tank from the dealer I averaged 49.5 mpg and got close to 500 miles.....I have had my car 2 weeks and I am very pleased.

I'm on my first tank of gas. Got the car last Tuesday evening..My commute is very short...only 8 miles one way to my office.. So far with just over half a tank left I have 216 miles with the MFD telling me I am averaging 48.1MPG... Myfirst bar was approx 120 so the bars really started flying off after that first bar came off. We shall see how many miles I get for the first tank and also how much gas I can get into the tank on fillup... bec as others have said, there is no way to know how many gallons the dealership put in...Bottom line is that I have two other vehicles...one gets 21 and the other 23...so who cares...45-50-60mpg...Its so much better than anything else I have got even though I still like my other vehicles... Try this...someone comes up to you and asks how many mpg are you getting...You shrug your shoulders and sadly say....only 48....They look at you like you are crazy..48!!!! Why would you be sad....48,, I get 16 in my pickup! So, the moral of the story is...let's be very happy that we made the decisions we did to get this technology and be happy even if we don't get the BEST mpg every single time...

Typically I get anywhere from 180-230 on my first bar, about 30 for the next bars until 4 remain, about 50-75 for the remaining 4 bars, take a few tens of miles. This at at least 55 MPG.

We are usually reporting miles per bar, but lets remember, the bars are supposed to represent amount of fuel used/remaining, so the miles per bar can vary depending on the MPG for that volume of fuel.
