I have had some problems with my 2004 Prius with 190K miles and just ran a diagnostic but not able to link to the explanation of the codes that came up- using Techstream. Any help would be appreciated.
    Under ABS/VSC/TRAC- C1253 & 1256
    Under A/C- B1433. & B1443
    Under Gateway- B1271
Can anyone shed light on these codes and or direct me to finding more info.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi ,

The repair manual is at techinfo.toyota.com. At the front of each section (say, the brake section for your ABS/VSC/TRAC codes, the A/C section for the A/C code) you will find a terse list of the codes, where each code listed will have a link to a detail page.

When you get to the detail page, pay the most attention to what's called the "detection condition" for the code (not just the "fortune cookie" line at the top). The detection condition tells you exactly what was happening in the car causing that code to be set.

Reading the manual on techinfo will take a $15 signup. There are apparently ways to get to it, or a lot of it, through a service that may be free through your nearby library; @Elektroingenieur knows more about that.

Can you please check techstream again, some of those thrown DTCs could have a small cloud or flower icon nearby. Click on that icon and it will display an INF (three digit) subcode which would make it easier to diagnose. Please repost any DTCs with the INFs.

Example: There are 7 possible INF subcodes for DTC C1253 - https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/repair%20manual/04pruisr/05/21avn/cic12525.pdf
