    Hi Everyone,

I want to thank everyone for the information this website puts out. I have used threads to fix my Prius over the last three years. I can't seem to find anything exactly like this in the past threads so I thought I would ask.

2008 Prius Base with 175,000 miles. I replaced the HV battery 6 months ago with a salvage one. No problems since then except for replacing downstream 0xygen sensor and putting in new spark plugs/cleaning throttle body. I also replaced brakes/rotors around two months ago.

I am getting the red triangle exclamation point, the yellow exclamation point in one set of parenthesis (brake system light, I think?) and the VSC. So I tried resetting the codes by unplugging and they came back within 50 or 60 miles. So I parked it and am trying to figure out what is wrong. Going on common advice here I checked the 12v using the display check and it shows 12.2 before load. If I turn the headlights on it drops to 11.7 without the car in Ready mode. Car in ready mode it obviously jumps up to 14. Not sure on age of battery. I bought the car 2.5 years ago. It came with some service records but nothing on the battery. Can't say if that is because they didn't replace it or just didn't save the paper work. I think that those numbers are okay but please correct me if I am wrong.

More on the common advice here, I purchased and installed the VCI techstream from amazon with minimal problems. I ran the health check last night and came back with notes on Power Source Control B2289. The chart also shows Immobiliser, body, Smart Key, and Gateway but no codes for any of that. Still just trying to figure out how to use the VCI so I may be posting something stupid. I will be watching the demo later tonight.

Any ideas anyone? Is the battery reading too low? Some other things I checked based on similar threads.

I just replaced the battery on the key fob just in case but it didn't change anything.
I checked to oil level which is good.
The inverter pump is agitating the coolant.
No abnormal screeching from brake actuator.
    Brakes are working fine.

No, but it could be charged up, just because that would be good for it.

At 12.2 V your battery is ~42% SoC.

Thanks for the reply. I actually used a trickle charger 3 or 4 days ago for about 12 hours. Since the battery is at around ~42% even after a charge a couple days ago, this probably indicates a battery with reduced capacity, right? I don't think the battery is creating codes but more likely just an additional issue that needs to be addressed, correct? I have let the car sit for two days now and will check the level with my voltmeter tonight when working on the diagnostic from SFO. Thanks again for your help

Maybe, maybe not. To know for sure use a charger that can charge at 4-4.5 Amps. A trickle charger is really only designed to keep a fully charged battery fully charged.
    Correct.

Took me a few days to get around to this. I was able to find the power source control ECU ( I think). It had Toyota part number 89670-47010.
However I am having a little bit of a hard time identifying the part named as transponder key ECU -T5.

I found the smart key ECU right next to the power source control ECU. But it doesn’t say transponder key ECU. That one says part number 89990-47023. I am pretty sure that’s not it

So obviously I am having a hard time testing the wire harness because I can’t find the T5 ECU. Is it possible for anyone to give me some direction on where I can find it? I have the dash all apart in order to access the Power Source Control ECU which was up under the meter/ speedo.
I tried tracing the wiring harness back but it just goes into the main wiring harness.

Anyone had problems with this code before? B2289
    Thanks

It's not easy to interpret the various diagrams in the electrical wiring diagram, but it appears that T5 is located on the passenger side of the instrument panel. There are four ventilation ducts in the instrument panel; it appears that T5 is located near the third one (counting from far left to far right.)
