Wait the car has a solar panel?
Is that why my car went from 88 percent to 100precent or was that just a glitch.

Gas prices are also really really expensive now here in Ottawa.
Remember if you search it up we use litres not gallons.;)

I want to use electricity instead of gas, but not unconditional. Right now Prime costs less than a similar equipped Corolla, there is no reason not to get it.

The solar roof is a Prime standard equipment here... I understand that from some reason (US crash protection requirements?) it is not available in the States, which is a pity because it works noteworthly: in a good sunny day it increases the range by some 6-7 km (w/ the car parked and not connected to the grid).
Of course in the winter seaseon the solar panel a lot less efficient, 1-2 km of range increase per day, maximum. Better than nothing, though..

I can imagine you must look very smart riding a bike in the pouring rain or walking while feeling romantic.

It rains 105 days a year in Tampa, but only 35 days in Los Angeles.

(Riding a bike in Forks, WA, near where I grew up, would be dedication, 210 days of rain a year)

True, there is few months of rain everyday in Tampa and always at the same time of the day also. Even with no rain, riding a bike for hours to work under the sun of LA is not fun.

In fact, I do feel smarter, even maybe not the fact that I am, when I drive a car with all those latest tech features. I don't know about you guys, recently I noticed myself starting to look for those button like sensors in other cars.

Can’t speak for others, but we went with the prime because fuel consumption, safety features, and our monthly payments went down over our ‘15 Prius. Most driving is done on EV mode due to shorter trips.

For my commute to work I drive a fully electric Smart fortwo.

We still have 3/4 tank left where our other Prius already would have had a fill up.

Life is short. Make the most of it. If a Prime makes you feel warm and fuzzy, then buy one. Otherwise, choose whatever else does it for you. :)

    Off-topic alert -

I converted my old mountain bike to electric about 4 years ago. With a 1kWh LiFePO4 battery it cruises at 30mph, and has about the same range as my Prime (up to a max of about 50 miles if I pedal assist).

Cost me about $1K for the battery and motor. I use it quite a bit for grocery and Post Office runs, when the weather's good. By my estimation, it generates about 1/25 the carbon per mile that my old VW did, versus about 1/5 compared to my Prime in EV mode.

It's nice in the hottest months here, in that on the ebike I can get around town without being drenched in sweat vs. riding my non-electrified bike. The rest of the year I really should use the regular bike more, for the exercise, but tearing around on the ebike is too much fun :}.

If you do your own conversion, make sure you use a bike with disk brakes. My rim brakes leave a lot to be desired...

And now back to our regular programming...

My commute is like 12 miles round trip and I still got a prime lol. I was actually looking for a few year old bmw, but I feel like luxury cars become outdated a lot faster than others. Not to mention the 1-2k worth of annual maintenance just to daily drive the thing.

I like the aesthetics of the car and the tech/safety features and console/tablet for a screen feels luxurious enough for me. Also, at my current rate, I’ll only have to fill up every other month (and that’s not taking into account of driving on EV)

I agree with you 100%. Like many of us here, I can afford to drive a more expensive luxury ride—I actually had a newer Audi S4, but I tired of the high maintenance and overall operating costs. The Audi was extremely nice, but I found myself spending tons of money for something I was only using on average for one hour per day. And after zooming up to a higher speed :) one day, I thought, boy, this is really stupid of me. So now I’m in the Prime—after the discounts, Toyota rebates, and federal tax credit, I didn’t get hurt too badly on the trade. And I have NO regrets at all! Love the Prime!

Two people driving to work...one pulls up in a Lamborghini and one pulls up in a Prius. I’m not so convinced that the Prius driver is a smart one.
