I would like to hear from any members who maybe understand the Prius Prime’s scheduling algorithms better than I do. Here is my situation. Here in Georgia the primary power utility Georgia Power has an EV tariff. Normal Georgia Power rates vary from about 12 cents per kWh in the winter to 15.5 cents per kWh in the summer. This includes the base charge of $10.00 per month plus all fees and taxes. They have an EV rate that charges about 5.6 cents per kWh between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am. Standard rates the rest of the time are about 10 cents per kWh. The kicker is in the summer they have a peak rate of almost 29 cents per kWh between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. So the obvious choice is to always charge the car between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am. I am also adding solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall to try to avoid the 29 cent tariff altogether but that is another story. I originally set up my Prius to charge by 7:00 am. That worked fine until one day a pulled into the garage in the middle of the day and knew that I was not going out again so I plugged the car in expecting it to start charging about 1:30 am for the usual 5.5 hour charge to finish at 7:00 am. Imagine my surprise when that evening I received an email from the car saying that charging was done. I went down to the car and looked at the charge meter and sure enough it was fully charged. Clearly this was not my intent as much of that time would have been at 29 cents per kWh. Almost $2 for a full charge. After looking at the manual I could not find a way to definitely limit the charging from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. The best I could do was always start the charging at 11:00 pm. This worked fine until one evening I forgot to plug the car in. I went out some time after 11:00 pm and plugged it in, expecting a full charge by morning. When I started out the next day the ICE immediately turned on. Looking at the charge indicator showed no EV power just as the night before. I verified this another night and explicitly did a charge now after plugging the car in. So unless someone has any other ideas the current solution is to always plug the car in before 11:00 pm or make sure I do a charge now if I plug it in after 11:00 pm. It would however be nice if there was an automatic way to just insure the car always charged only between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am. If there truly is no way to do this today I hope Toyota considers adding this in a software update.

i think you're just confused, this has nothing to do with algorithms. what i would do:

    1) read the charging instructions thoroughly.

    2) learn to set the charging time, and confirm it is going to do what you want before walking away.

    3) you have an advanced model, much information should be available on your phone, but you might need a smart L2 evse.

There are two ways to enable "Charge Now". One is to press OK on the screen (you may have accidentally acknowledged it thinking it was a different message and press a button to "cancel" or "ok" the message). The other is if you plugged the car in, removed the charger plug and plugged it in again (i.e. you plugged the charging cable into the car twice in succession).

Otherwise, it should follow your charging schedule.

If you are using 120V outlet, set the charge rate to 12A which will allow you to full charge in 5hr10min. Set the departure time to 6:30AM. Make sure you have set the system time and Nav system time the same.

I do not think I did either of those things when it charged during the day but I am going to go back to the the charge by time mode and see if I can reproduce the problem.

I had the charge by time set to 7:00 am and it always charged in about 5.5 hours. As stated above I am going go back to charge by time mode and try to reproduce the problem.

    thanks for the feedback.

Hopefully you can replicate the problem and figure it out or the problem doesn't return and it was a weird fluke.

My charge schedule seems to be off two days. When I turn off the car on Monday for example the charge schedule says charge will be complete by 6am (time I have set) Thursday. I have a different time set for the weekends due to time of use rates. I can't seem to find how to set the date clock on the charge schedule. Ideas???

    Thanks very much,

I seem to be having a similar problem. The charge schedule shows the current day as Wednesday but it's really only Tuesday. I've been looking also but can't find out how to correct the problem. Folks at the dealer were not much help either.

I think my schedule date got off when I added an electrical assessor but I'm not sure about that. I'm hoping someone on this forum will know a simple way to correct this setting. For now I'm always hitting the charge now button when powering off the car.

Found the way to correct the calendar. Using the buttons on the steering wheel, scroll right until you get to "meter customize". Press the center button to display the menu selections. Press the down arrow on the wheel until you reach calendar (right below language). Press the center button to select calendar and make your changes.
My dealer set my clock incorrectly so the date rolled before it was supposed to. Hope this helps.

Make sure both clocks are properly set to day and hour. One on screen on dash and other on the big display above shifter.

    >> Meter Customize <<

I was interested in this as well, but could not find "meter customize" so, posting more details in case someone finds the same difficulty.

Using the right steering wheel cursor
move the top icon bar to select the "gear" icon
depending on the last access, "meter customize" may not be visible.
scroll down the icons, but watch the right panel for "meter customize"
    then press the center button

To end on a lighter note, I couldn't understand why the left right arrows seemed to result in reverse results...
...until I realized that the steering wheel was turned so it was upside down.... <sigh>
