    Hello,

My husband and I have finally decided on buying a Prius in the next few months. Right now my daily driver is a 2004 Toyota Sequoia (we have four dogs I show in agility) and I'd like a commuter car that is easier to manuver and more environmentally friendly. With a Prius the Sequoia can stay in the garage except for when I'm traveling with the dogs, and we can use the Prius for most of our commuting and errands.

I have a few questions for any of you in the Indianapolis area. We just had a new dealership open up by us (Andy Mohr in Avon) and plan on starting our Prius search there. Anyone had any experiences with them? Their service deptment has been great (we also have a Camry). Any other recommended dealerships? Also, Edmunds has said people are paying $2000 above MSRP in the Indy area, which is a bit hard to swallow. I'm okay with paying sticker but not above. Any idea on wait times? Ideally we'd like a Barcelona Red with option pkg #7. I'm hoping to avoid leather as I get Wet Okole seat covers for my cars (they are fabulous, particularly with dogs).

Also, do most of you test drive them before you buy? We're hoping we are able to, but our friends in other areas who have bought them almost all ordered them without test driving them first. That is a little scary, but we're willing to do it if we have to.

Thanks in advance for the help. I was thrilled to find this forum.

    Sam in Avon, IN

If you're up for driving a couple of hours south - contact Jim McAfee at Green Tree Toyota in Clarksville IN (Louisville area).

I bought my Prius from him April and had a great experience.

Their website http://greentreetoyota.wyler.com/ shows that they currently have 1 in stock.

I would definitely recommend test driving at least one Prius before buying. There's a wide range of comments on the seats - I'm very happy with them but I've seen a lot of comments from people who are less than satisfied.

I test drove a couple of Prii but not the one that I ultimately purchased. It was bought sight unseen. B)

    Good luck on your search.

After enduring the games of 3 other dealerships we bought our '06 off the lot at Evans Toyota in Ft. Wayne for MSRP. Evan's is a family business where the owner takes an active part and values his reputation.

Timming is everything and luckily they had the exact color/option combination we wanted. The sale was refeshing easy and friendly. We contacted them through the internet on Saturday and drove away Tuesday morning!

They typically post their cars at www.vehix.com. Good Luck.

O'Brien has cars in stock, and offered me $500 below MSRP. I'm getting closer to buying one finally every day, I think.

I've had good luck with Tom Wood Toyota in Indianapolis.

My salesman, Milton, sold the car for MSRP and gave me a generous trade-in for my current year Honda Accord. I paid just under $5000 difference for my '05 Prius.

As an update to my previous post, I just traded in my '05 Prius for an '06 and once again got the best deal at Tom Wood Toyota.

The worst deal in Indianapolis was at Andy Mohr Toyota in Avon, a western suburb. They wanted nearly $1400 more for the same deal that I received at Tom Wood. In fact they were $1100 over my best deal at the time and they refused to come down.

I guess they figured there were plenty of Prius customers coming their way

I bought mine from O'Brien. However, I did all my shopping through a purchasing agent, AutoPurchasing. I told them the one price that I am willing to pay and the features and color that I want. They took care off all the shopping and paperwork. I received my car in about a month. I live in Lafayette so I do not take my car to O'Brien for service. You can look them up on www.autopurchasing.com to find out more info about them. Hope this helps.

In all fairness, I was treated well and received a great price from O'Brien.

In fact their first price (without negotiating) was just over $300 of my final price at Tom Wood. I took the Tom Wood offer since my car would arrive within 1-2 weeks, although the O'Brien car would not be in until the end of the month.

The salesman admitted, as other posters have noted, that they offer $500 off MSRP on any Prius either on the lot or ordered.

How many dealers (Indiana or elsewhere) can offer that!

Anyone have any more recent shopping experiences in and around Indy? I'm back to looking more seriously again. Don't know if the climate has changed or what type of deal might be available especially with gas being around $3/gal compared to back in April.

I did notice that on AutoTrader.com that Andy Mohr has 54 prius listed in stock? Can that be correct??

I visited Any Mohr in April before I bought my Prius and they only had one on the lot (package 7). When I tried to negotiate, they were about $1400 higher than my price with Tom Wood.

They didn't seem very flexible. I'm just not sure what their current stock situation is, however.

    Hope this helps!

I did a lot of shopping throughout Indiana. I went to the Toyota website to send emails to a lot of Toyota dealers. Butler Toyota keeps a 2005 Prius on their lot to test drive, or at least they did 3 or 4 months ago. I ended up buying my Prius from Toyota of Muncie. They treated me well and did not push any extras on me. Muncie even did a dealer trade to get the exact car I wanted. I also would recommend Bob Rohrman in Lafayette. I had my deposit with them first, but was able to get one through Muncie quicker. The internet sales manager at Andy Mohr, I think his name was Erik, was very pushy in trying to get me to settle for something I really did not want. I was not real impressed with them. The folks at O'Brien were very nice to me, I would consider them if I were looking for a Prius again. If you find someone who has a Prius with the package you want but not the exact colors, ask them about a dealer trade. I know this is possible so don't let them tell you no. My dealer trade was found in 15 minutes. Also, all cars I found were at MSRP. You should not have to pay over. Good luck on your hunt!

I bought mine from Clint Fisher at Wiese in Columbus. 800-830-6250. A very pleasant transaction at a fair price - slightly less than MSRP. Extra cost options, like the extended warranty, were offered and explained but we felt absolutely no pressure to buy them.

We went to see it on a hot, busy Saturday afternoon, really only to see what a silver one looked like before putting a deposit on a red one that was coming into another dealership. Before we arrived, Clint had taken the time to bring the car into their air conditioned shop area so we could go over the car were it was cool and had plenty of time to check it out for as long as we wanted. Once we saw it, we liked it more than the red one and, after a test drive, bought it and drove it home that day. Absolutely no regrets and absolutely nothing wrong with the car in the 2500mi. since then.

    At the time:
    * Wiese had at least one other in stock but that was about a month ago.
    * I had visited about every other dealer in the Indy area and can also reccomend Michael Black at O'Brien.
    * Beck, the closest dealer to my home, was still attempting to charge MSRP + a hefty premium.

Well, it looks like my search is going to be futile. I thought I had one lined up a couple of times since I last posted here on 8/2, but both times they were going to dealer trade for the package I wanted, & it fell through.

Not sure why I'm posting, maybe just to vent. Ugh.

I'm not sure exactly why your deal fell through.

I recommended a friend recently to Tom Wood Toyota and they had a car with the right package and color he wanted. They didn't give him enough for his trade, but went with the deal anyway due to the tax savings.

Talk to Milton at Tom Wood Toyota.

The deal fell through because I didn't want black :-( They were going to try to trade at port for a different color but they didn't get anything worked out in time before it got loaded onto freight. They didn't seem very willing to try to do a regional dealer trade. This was Royal in Bloomington.

Since then I've been working with Craig Toyota in Madison, and he's been looking to make a trade for me for about a week, but nothing yet. My preferences were an HG in any color but white, black, or green, and most recently I've told people I'd consider an HI as well.

I had talked to a "doctor tom" over at Tom Wood Toyota earlier this month, and everything was spoken for, but he would give me a call if something freed up. I called him again yesterday evening, and that was still the case, except for a $28k package #7.

I just had to bump this thread up and share my experience. Yesterday I bought an 07 Prius w/Package 3 from Ed Martin Toyota in Anderson, IN. I paid about $950 under MSRP, and received about $500 over KBB value for my trade, making this a very nice deal, IMO. I had emailed several other area dealers and none would come close to this total deal. Additionally, my salesman, Sky Estes, was very easy to work with.

I just bought an 07from Richmond Toyota in Richmond IN. Got it yesterday. $2000 under sticker and got 1000 over KBB for my trade. They were pleasant except for the fiance manager. She kept pushing the extended warranty at $1690. I told her I would take it from her for $890 knowing I could already get it for $990. But the salesman Terry Kilcoyne was great to work with.

Don't know about your area, but in the Boston area, inventory of prii on the dealers lot started to appear back in November. They tried the "we haven't sold these below list" line with me when I bought last week, but quickly dropped the price when I told them what their competitors offer to me was.

I would suggest that you check to see if there is still a waiting list or if they have them on the lot...if there's no waiting list, then I would expect they'd negotiate below MSRP, perhaps well below MSRP.

O'Brien Toyota in Indianapolis has quite a few on the lot--mostly regular Prii but also a few Touring Editions. They currently have a "construction special" running--$700 off MSRP. Coupled with the current financing incentives (we got 3.9% for 48 months), it's a pretty good deal. We stopped by to place an order this past weekend and ended up driving off the lot in our new Prius.
