    All,

    2012 Prius v wagon

I could use some help. Yesterday I broke the front hinge on my center armrest hinge. This looks like a big job and I don't know where to start.

Has anyone ever taken apart their center console in a Prius v wagon?

I hope the hinge can be replaced but it kinda looks like it is one solid piece and the whole internal box needs replaced.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance,
    Andy

The top frame (hinged armrest and base) separates from the box. Doubt the hinge can be repaired.

Wow, just a quick update from 5 minutes ago.

From another post it was mentioned to pull up an the front cupholder to get to the buttons for EV or power. I did this and it exposed the hinge bracket. I used a stubby phillips screwdriver and removed 2 screws and then tugged on it because it is held in with 1 tab.

Now to drive out the hinge pin and go to Toyota for a replacement part.

    Update 2,

I had to remove the rear hinge mount just like the front to get the armrest out.

It looks like the entire armrest assembly might need replaced because the hinge pin is buried and actuated by the latches and spring loaded so it might be a complete assembly replacement vs. just a hinge bracket.

I'll visit Toyota in a day or two and see what they say.

    Thanks,
    Andy

Home Depot has something for bonding plastics. It's called ABS cement which is basically a very strong plastic. It's used to bond plastic pipes. But I use it to bond all forms of plastics and it seems to work very well. Allow it time to dry. Once bonded ABS is a very strong plastic. Some times I scrape the plastic bottom of my car so I use this to strengthen and harden the area that got scraped. I have used it to bond broken plastic hinges as well.

Sorry guys, I tested ABS cement again and it's not as strong as I thought for bonding plastics. I bought it mainly to coat under belly scrapes.

Thanks for the link. I ended up buying a used one off eBay. It is very scratched up compared to my broken one. I paid $45 total so nearly $100 less than a new one.

I did try to disassemble my broken one but they are assembled in such a way that I think I was causing damage trying to pry it apart. It snaps together with hidden tabs and is locks together very completely.

If I wasn't so cheap I would have ordered the new one but saving nearly $100 seems worth it this time around.

    Thanks, Andy

Yes, it did. Used leather close to the light gray SofTex.

Call scrap yards, they have all parts.
Plastic is easily welded with soldering iron. I even connecet bumper torn in half.
And welded crack on washer water container ($100cad scrap price)

Btw, it can be mixed to 4 parts of water in warm season.

I think you can add plastic too, there's plastic weld sticks?

Btw, avoid buying new aftermarket bumper covers. The plastic cracks of any impact in winter, even on snow pile. Better repair original one, or look at scrap with "Toyota" word inside.
