Hi All. This is my first time here.... my 2016 Prius 2 has 25,000 miles, always gets regular maintenance. One day last week when my 18 yr old son was in the passenger seat, the Airbag OFF was lit, the SRS warning was lit and the No seatbelt was blinking. We turned the car off, restarted and all lights functioned normally. Figured it was a fluke. Well, tonight, the same thing. 200# kid in the passenger seat and the dash shows the airbag is OFF, seatbelt unfastened (it was clicked, we double checked his and mine) light was on and the SRS warning light was on.... I have an app't to drop "Frankie" at the dealership tomorrow, but they warned me that if the lights aren't on, they might not be able to figure out what the problem is.

I have the full 8 yr/100,000 mile extended warranty (everything but wearables like belts and tires).

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Hopefully, there will be a record in the car's EDR (Event Data Recorder) which is designed to record any "events" of significance - and I'd suspect that an airbag malfunction should be of significance.

Ask them to ensure that they check the computer record.

The simplest and most obvious cause of this would be that the switch which shows that the seatbelt is buckled is not working.
I'm pretty sure that the airbag will be disabled if the seatbelt is not buckled.

Good news, sort of. They were able to replicate the "problem", so now I am waiting to see what the actual issue is and how complicated the repair will be.

I am told that the sensor in the seatbelt buckle is malfunctioning. We shall see if that fixes it.
