I recently got an P0A93 and P00D1 error on my 2006 Prius. Since I was driving I tried clearing it out but it came back pretty quick. Lost cruse control. I was going to let it be like that until I got home. Well I was about 6 miles from home when the car completely died. No power steering, no power brakes, no power to anything. Had to get it towed.

When I got it home I tested the 12v and did not get a reading. I have a lithium 12v that has a low voltage cutoff so I guess that may have tripped. I hooked up my bench power supply to the terminals under the hood to get the relays to kick on and my battery came back to life.

My canview has not been working for almost a year so I have not been able to monitor anything. The way it was acting I thought maybe one of the USB cables have come loose somewhere and never really had time to tear apart the car to diagnose that issue. After tearing though my car this weekend to check out the usb cables and not fixing the issue I decided to try reprogramming it. Now its working and I can monitor stuff again. :)

As you can see in this video this is what its doing

It did get to 215 degrees which is what I think may have thrown the codes but I dont know if that would be a real reading or not. After looking at some screens I noticed that MG1 inverter and MG1 and MG2 windings temperature are alternating between two different readings.

The P0A93 is related to the inverter pump failing from what I can tell. P00D1 I cannot find any good information on.

If the inverter pump is failing wouldn't the temperatures be accurate and not alternating? If the temperatures are alternating like that I would think it would be a sensor side related issue and not the pump side.

Can anyone with more experience with this type of issue point me in the right direction for diagnostics? Right now I'm waiting for the codes to pop up again and I will try to take it to the dealership to see what they say. I would still like to fix it myself though if I can.

Check your coolant reservoir for turbulence in Ready mode. If none, replace the inverter coolant pump.

Confirmed no movement in coolant reservoir. Would a bad pump cause the temperature reading to jump around like that? I would figure it would be stable even if the pump was not working.

Anyway just ordered a new pump and coolant. Wont be in until next week but I have to replace my Insights clutch master and slave cylinder this weekend anyway.

Get the coolant flowing, reset the codes and see if any return. Hopefully they won't. The temperature readings may be sensors on the coolant, not on the MG's so erratic readings with no flow is a possibility. I have read that there are no temperature sensors on the MG's.

Do you have the repair manual for you 2006 Prius?

I will give an update as soon as I get it replaced.

I have the manual for it. I'll look it up and follow it along with some videos.

just a suggestion for when you have the inverter system open - try blowing through the coolant passages of the inverter itself, in both directions, before adding coolant; if you encounter resistance in either direction there's probably a blob of slime that needs to be blown out of there. (use a clean scrap piece of heater hose on the lower resevoir connection, or just clean it up when you 'hit with air' and it splats all over the engine compartment).

    Hey JeffD,

I found that there's only a temp sensor (embedded) on mg2 stator winding, there are no wires for an embedded sensor
on mg1. Mg2 also has the fluid temp sensor in its chamber, which is secured with a screw near the bottom of the sump.

OK so I got the pump replaced. It was kind of a pain but overall a somewhat easy fix. If you have small hands.

I blew through the tube before hooking it back up and it felt blocked by something. Its not blocked now and its pumping just fine.

I'm still getting the temperature readings fluctuating like in my video. So I dont know now if this is an issue with my canview parsing the data or if there is something wrong on the Prius side sending that data. I need to get some time to track down those sensors on the wiring schematic and see what I can fine with some probing.

I also want to find the codes for those sensors and program my scangauge to display them to see if I get the same results. If anyone knows the codes for the scangauge to display what I need I would appreciate it if you could post them.

So for now I will just be monitoring the temperature and as long as I dont get above 200F I think I will be fine. I removed 2 stoppers from my front grille block just to let some more air come through just to be on the safe side.

    Hey Force,

One of the t/a connectors on my part's-car wasn't fully engaged for a time and it occasionally would throw a code
indicating a bad MG temp (not sure which one) - you could take a careful look for any damage to them, maybe try unplugging and replugging them (they can really be a pain to unplug).

Did you check for clogging in the inverter's cooling passages?

How are your daytime temperatures now, what percent are you blocking, and is that upper or lower grill. Not sure: where is the inverter coolant radiator on second gen? You might want to leave that zone completely open.

Or just pull all the grill block off? It must be warming where you are.

I'll check the connectors as soon as I can find the location of them.

Yeah I blew through the hose. Felt some pressure and it went away. Dont know where the blockage went to but its pumping fine.

Upper grille is unblocked. I always unblock it during the summer. Lower stays blocked unless I'm going on a long trip in 80F+ heat.

On second gen I think inverter radiator is at the bottom. Maybe just pull everything off for a while?

If you have the plastic cover off in the engine compartment, the 2 most likely connectors are easy to find, the one for mg2 is below and almost directly in line with the large diameter orange cable coming out of the front right corner of the inverter, the plug for mg1 is right about a foot to the left at approx. the same height; the other connector to check is right around the corner from the first one for mg2, I think they are all 6-pin connectors.

I guess it must have redissolved in the coolant. Do you have good strong movement in the resevoir?

I'll check on the connectors this weekend thanks.

Really good movement in the reservoir. Seems to be be ok. I'll check it every once in a while though just to be sure.
