I just got the Motorola Q with bluetooth from Verizon.
I can connect to the Prius and make and receive calls.

I can transfer contacts to the Prius and it says a successful transfer.

    Now my problem.

    1. Even when I am just sitting still, I see my phone book contacts, but they are greyed out. So I can NOT choose them or add them to the One Touch screen.
    2. If I assign a previous call number to the One Touch screen, then when I start moving the number disappears and I am left with remembering what number I assign to what one touch.

Anybody have any ideas what is wrong.

    Thanks

    1. I don't have an answer to this one - I was actually surprised at being able to transfer from the phone at all - I think this was something verizon disabled on their phones. I see the same problem though.
    2. This is normal - it's just toyota's way of "protecting" us from reading while driving.

I've got a question for you - Have you been able to charge the Q in your Prius? Mine will hold a charge, but it will not charge it at all.

Longshortofit - I own a Q also and I'm interested in how you got the contacts to upload to the Prius. I have an '04 Prius but I hope that is not the prob. I have never been able to upload my V710 to my Prius. Now that I have a Q I am looking to upload my contacts. Did you just follow the instructions?

As far as your concern about the subdued list of contact that won't let you access them, My Guess is, it is because you are moving. You can hack the Prius to allow you to use the system while moving by disabling the motion detector. I found the way to do it on PriusChat.

Sorry man, I just read your question again and I see that you state that you are not moving. My suggestion does not help you.

I would still like to know how you got as far as you did with the transfer of the data base in your Q.

Can you actually see the phone list on your one touch screen? I am not a "fan" of Verizon as you may tell form past posts. I got hosed on the 710. If you hit the phone button on the steering do you go to the one touch or the key pad? If you can do pictures that will help?

I was out of touch for the weekend.

The question about transferring contacts. I just go to the contact I want to be on the Prius. (I have not tried a whole phone book) Then I go to "MENU-Send via Bluetooth" the Prius then asks Replace of Add and I choose Add and then the Prius says successful. Please let me know if you get a contact on the Prius and if yours does the same thing of being grayed out. Thanks

Again they are grayed out while I am sitting in my yard NOT moving.

Repeating. I can see the phone list but it is always grayed out, I figured once I got the number to the Prius that the phone was out of the picture for displaying the info.

I will try and take some pictures and post them later.

[attachmentid=4298]Here is a picture of the grayed out entries in my phone book on the Prius while I am setting in the parking lot. You can see that the alphabet tags are available, but the entries are grayed and can not be selected.

The other pictures of successful transfers, I could not use my camera phone and transfer at the same time. Have to wait until I get home to use a standard camera.

I know this sounds dumb but I was thinking the same thing while charging my V710 in the Prius and what I finally figured out was the Vehicle Charger needed to be rotated a bit till the green light was lit. I know that is a lame answer and a duhhh. But that's what I figured after not charging my phone successfully a few times.

I'm guessing at this one, but I notice that the screen indicates that you have no cell signal. I wonder if no cell signal causes the screen to disable...

It could be that the "no signal" is because the phone doesn't support that option, but the antenna-like symbol should have bars next to it indicating signal strength.

Again, just a guess. Maybe someone can confirm that behavior...

In my '06, I can not dial from my contacts, but I can dial from speed dial while moving. I can ONLY see NAMES in speed dial. The corresponding numbers are missing. It seems to me that if you put names to your speed dial, it might solve one problem. My phone, for reference is a Motorola V3c Razor from Verizon.

    For Moby Whaley and others

Here are the steps to upload addresses from the Motorola Q. It should be about the same for any phone on the Prius side.

You go to the Prius phone

    [attachmentid=4314]

    Then choose settings

    [attachmentid=4315]

Then scroll down and select Start Transfer from the Transfer Phone Data

    [attachmentid=4316]

I choose the Add button, since I add one at a time

    [attachmentid=4317]

Then you see the above screen

At this time go to your Motorola Q and find the contact you want to add and select the one you to add to your Prius phone book and then select <menu><Send by Bluetooth>

I did notice like someone else wrote that the signal strength shows nothing, but I can use the Prius Bluetooth to talk and listen. So it could be that without this indicator showing signal strength the phone entries are grayed out and can not be selected.

Again this is done when I am NOT moving.

I would like to hear from someone else to transfer an entry and let me know if the entry is grayed out (maybe Moby Whaley can do this for me)

    Thanks in advance.

    OK, Long Short Of It,
I transferred a couple of names from the Q to the Prius per your excellent tutorial. They are grayed out.
    See photo below.

I do not know what else to do.

Hoping to find someone that knows our answer to this problem. I am looking for someone with a bluetooth phone that is not from verizon to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks, I now know I am not alone. Bad for you and me at this point.
Phone works great to talk and listen, just have to use the phone to do the dialing or hand dial on the Prius screen if not moving.

    Thanks again

I have an i730 with Verizon and although the contacts appeared to transfer correctly, they didn't. The names for my contacts transfered, but the numbers ended up being all dashes. I ended up using a program called "Auto Ripper" to pull my contacts from Outlook. I found the program here http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=1...&hl=Auto+Ripper

Everything appears to work with the i730 except the signal strength indicator. Does the signal strength work with the Q?

I don't have Verizon..have Cingular, but took some time to figure out the sysytem in my 06...

I do notice that my "connection" to BT occasionally drops...probably when I am in low signal area...my home area is very hilly..and often the signal drops to zero..so I get a gray-out, but also a message asking me to check my mobile link.

Occasionally, I have to turn off my phone and turn it back on to re-link.

Also, I would suggest doing the phone book work in an area where you have great signal strength....

I can Speed Dial while I'm driving, hence my key numbers are in speed dial. I can also voice input the actual number while I am driving...by hitting the voice button on my steering wheel, then saying the NUMBER I wish to dial...I can't, oddly enough, use my voice tags when I push the voice button on my sw, while I am driving...if I come to a stop, and stay there, I can use voice tag dial.

But, the car seems to gray out when signal strength is weak or link drops...and it's easy to miss the little red line through the BT circle at the top...

Hope you get up and running. It's an annoyance, but well worth the effort to set up...I love it now...

Well I had to do the phone book load from a manually created text file. The following link takes you to where there is a shareware program, but I never got it to work.

    http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=1...&hl=Auto+Ripper

At the above link there is a person named GuyLaFurie talked about creating a text file and he shows what format it is in. Which is basically what I have shown below.

Using Notepad on your PC create a file with .TXT extension and enter your name and numbers in the following format.

    BEGIN:VCARD
    N:xxxxxxxxx
    TEL;HOME;VOICE:xxxxxxxxxx
    END:VCARD

    BEGIN:VCARD
    N:xxxxxxxxx
    TEL;HOME;VOICE:xxxxxxxxxx
    END:VCARD

    BEGIN:VCARD
    N:longshort
    TEL;HOME;VOICE:5553337777
    END:VCARD

I replace the xx next to N: with the max nine characters you can have in a name.

The 10 x's of the phone# (no dashes or spaces).

Save this file to your PC with the extension of .TXT

Then with the Motorola Q connected to your PC copy this file over to your Q.

Then go to the Prius and go to Phone transfer like before.

Find your .TXT file on the Q in My Documents, with the file name highlighted choose "MENU-SEND-SEND by BLUETOOTH" and phone numbers are transferred.

Hope it works for you, it works great for me. Your just have to update the .TXT file when a name of phone# is added or updated and then transfer to the Q and then transfer the .TXT to the Prius.

Happy Calling from you Prius Phone Book, also remember you can add 17 numbers to your 1-touch dialing.

    wow longshortofit,
Now you are getting very technical. I'll have to try this when I have the patience to.

    Hey Everyone,

Just signed up to this site tonight. I have ALL the issues being discussed with my Moto Q, Verizon and 06 Prius - can't upload contact list/calendar either one at a time or entire list, menu items being grayed out (when stopped and with strong cells).

I'm just frustrated I guess. Can't beleive I actually need to consider creating and transferring a TXT file from my pc of my Q contacts!

There must be some simplier ways? The Toyota maint guy said it was a Verison issue and guess what the Verizon person told me....

At least it syncs so I can dial a call from my Q itself and talk on the speaker.

Any updates from anyone, lessons learned, etc.?

I would think Toyota might consider a sw upgrade or bug fix??

    Thx
    MJ

According to the Toyota Lets' Talk site, the Motorola Q does not have the capability to transfer the contact list to the Prius Hands Free Bluetooth phone system. Verizon is notorious for disabling this feature on their phones.
