Welp, after lots of thread reading here and learning the general caveats about batteries and EGR systems, I bought a used Prius with 100K on it. Stoked!

Photos and whatnot to come, but the gist: 2013 Two in that metallic navy blue color, with aftermarket Katzkin leather (front and back) and no other fancy options. Based on my personal use case, it was kind of the ideal configuration. I wanted not overly pricey, not "old" (Gen2), reasonable but not massive mileage, and not expensive options. However, I was recently convinced that seats that can be wiped off are very handy for ridesharing. I just didn't think I'd get a reasonably priced Prius with non-cloth seats. Well, I did. Also I was kind of allergic to black and white - too boring. So red, charcoal grey, or blue were the preferred colors.

Dealer stickered at 11995, then 9995. Kbb put it at about 11K+ but there were a handful of visible dings and bumps - all cosmetic and totally endearing to me. To get those "taken care of", I got the price down nearly a grand more. Score. I had a reputable local mechanic (though new to me) check everything: no codes, no damage beyond the cosmetic, no oil burning. Battery about 65% so not worrying much about that yet.

I think I might have gotten a good (not screaming) deal on a car I have already affectionately named the Mushmobile. (Quite the different driving experience from the MINI, that's for sure!)

P.S. Anyone want a throw-around weekend fun car? Message me about that '06 MINI. ;-)

Longo Toyota will remove those dings without repainting, maybe they'll give you a deal since you've got tons

Thanks! Still excited and a little nervous before I pick it up. I'll check with Longo about the dents. They actually don't bother me, and no chance of rust around here. But in Los Angeles, appearances matter.... Ugh.

I'm going to deep dive back into the forums to see if there are some "top 5" recommended things to do "to" the car now that I own it. Easy UI fixes, that sort of thing. I think I'll be able to find such threads but if anyone has links, send 'em over. ;-)

    Welcome.

What did you mean by the battery is at 65%- were you referring to the 12v or traction/hybrid? (Either way, you'll probably have around 50k miles left on your traction/hybrid battery warranty. I say probably because you should confirm that you are purchasing a California car)

The cabin and engine air filters are what I'd swap out first. They're both very easy to do yourself.

Hybrid battery, sorry. Mechanic inspection let me know that. I did not have a dealer or expert run the "steam" inspection folks here recommend...? I forgot about that one. Hopefully that would have turned up nothing.

Thanks for the filter tips. Car smells like a lot of "freshener" has been used in it so I'd like to get it to "pleasantly neutral", before I start hauling folks around via rideshare.

Soooooo.... NO, I did not purchase a California car and I totally "knew" that but it didn't click in my head before I bought it. So my battery warranty is officially over. Perhaps that's why this thing was slow to sell... Ok, stop second-guessing yourself. Argh.

And here it is: the Mushmobile. So far it's androgynous. Hopefully by giving it a tongue-in-cheek name I don't kill its will to live. :D

Well there is a shop in Beuna Park called Hybridpit. If you decide to have any work done, that's the place to go. I would check the oil level at each fill up to make sure it's not using oil. Change Trans fluid and EGR cleaning.

How does the car supposed to run if it doesn't use oil?

Yes, I've heard of them. Also the super-recommend place in Hollywood with the guy's name... Ali's?

I'm wondering if now that I am bought into this car I should get a 2nd super-thorough run thru, with a techstream and everything possible that might pop up down the road. Or, I'll just do that when I go in for 'regular' service.

Does the Prius have a 2-stroke engine?

Use oil as in burn oil, but I am sure it was a joke!
