I have a 2007 Prius Gen II (JDM Import) with 315,000kms(about 195,000Miles) working really good.

Because our price of gas has gone up in New Zealand $2.30L (US$6.12 Gallon) I am looking at purchasing a used Prius for my partner it is a used JDM import from a deceased estate so there seems to be no history information available. Car is working fine right now with no errors.

    Details are:
    Year: 2007 (2007-03)
    Make: TOYOTA
    Model: PRIUS
    Colour: Silver
    Body Style: Station Wagon (DAA-NHW20)
    VIN: 7AT0H637X14253489
    Engine No: 1NZ-3CM-U175913 (1NZFXE)
    Chassis: NHW20-3253489
    Current Odometer: 205,800 Km(126635 Miles)
    NZ First Registration: 27-May-2014

My concern is the Prius Hybrid battery!! I have seen a few here in New Zealand where the batteries are failing at under 200,000km(124274 Miles) What also concerns me because we are quite small in New Zealand we don’t seem to have much competition in the Toyota dealer network and the prices that I have got for new battery are NZ$4800 (US$3378) including installation.

This car is located over 500Kms away from me so I cant plugin any scan tool if anybody has suggestions to ways of checking battery status.

    Thanks

    David

A car of that age and that miles has a high likelihood of a battery failure.

If it is not failed now, it will fail within the next few years.

So plan on having money ready for the repair.

For you, when the time comes it may make sense to purchase NEW cylindrcal cells from Asia and build the pack yourself.

    Alibaba has listings.

Watch the videos by CEBA and learn how their setup works and how to install it.

In the meantime get tools to read error codes and live data
    - android phone/tablet
    - Elm 327 obdii bluetooth adaptor
    - app like Torque Pro, hybrid assistant, etc
