Its most def some of the battery modules have gone bad. Unfortunately with these hybrid cars, swapping out battery modules with used ones is only considered a “temporary fix”. Once another battery module gets weak and throws the pack out of balance, the entire car will eventually go back into another limp mode or worse, come to a complete halt. If you plan on driving these cars for another 10+ years, you are better off saving up a few thousand dollars for a brand new replacement pack. Used batteries aren’t going to last as long as new batteries. Its an endless cycle of pulling the service plug, unbolting the battery pack, taking it all apart, then spending a week or two balancing each 28 cell modules going from 3–4 deep cycles with a charger/discharger. Its painful tedious job to make it a driviable machine. The cheap temporary solution is perfectly fine if you don't plan on keeping these cars long.

I build a lot of late model 3rd gen retrofits and put a 3 year warranty on them. They are less money than a new one. Given that a new one will likely last 8 to 10 years, you only get a 1 year warranty unless you pay the dealership a huge amount of labor to get a 3 year warranty. Feel free to call me if you'd like. I'm only 3 or 4 hours away, and all work is guaranteed. I'll even check your maintenance items and I usually have most of those parts with me as well.

With a NEW battery, the warranty doesn't really matter. It could be a 1 month warranty, and it will still outlast any other used pack.

I am thinking about ordering a Rebuilt Battery from Jessica down in Houston, TX.
I have lived in Texas before, lot of good stuff comes out of that state.

    Thanks,

You're around 3.5 hours from Olathe. Olathe Toyota sells a new OEM battery for ~$1,600. That's the lowest that I've seen reported on this site. There is a core charge (as with any new OEM battery purchase) and they are currently on back order. (There's inconsistency over whether you can carry out for that price without installation. If you call, report back what they tell you.)

Remember, those packs are not fully assembled.
Buy or rent an inch-pound torque wrench. I just had a customer who did not tighten things properly. Not we are chasing down problems related to arcing. No fun.

Well It is confirmed, as much as this shade tree mechanic will need to, I got a bad battery!!
Got my MiniVCI in the mail today and I found some new codes in the HV Battery ECU:
    P0A80,,, Replace Hybrid Battery Pack
P3021,,, Battery Block 11 Becomes Weak
P3022,,, Battery Block 12 Becomes Weak

Two Blocks, when I do it I do it goood!!!!
Oh, I have plenty of them there Torque Wrenches, I even know how to use them... ;)

By the way that new fangled software came up with a new code on me...
B1421,,, Solar Sensor Circuit (Passenger Side) This may just be a false code, too hot!!!
    I still have....
    C1259 and C1310 and P3000 that I listed before.

I lost the one about the Left Rear Speed Sensor, good deal!!

So, as soon as my wife figures out how to pay for it I will order a Rebuilt Battery.

I have looked long and hard at the round celled replacement batt. If I have more problems I may jump.

    Thanks

This just means the car is not in bright sunlight, so, as long this is the case, it is nothing about which to worry.
These are really just further codes that corroborate the other three (P0A80, P3021,P3022).
A new battery should see you with no codes. Let us know how it goes with the rebuilt form Jessica. It is always good to have information on how well they last.

I have a FedEx shipment arriving tomorrow that weighs 120 lb., has to have Direct Signature.
The item started at Cypress, TX.
Warranty: Directly from the web page....
Do you offer any warranties for products and services?
Yes! We offer a minimum one year 25,000 mile warranty on all rebuilt batteries and a three year 75,000 mile warranty on all new batteries. We do everything we can to build the best batteries, but in the unlikely event of a problem please take your vehicle to an auto parts store such as Auto Zone or Advanced Auto to have the diagnostic codes read prior to calling.

    One year/25,000 miles.
    Thanks,

Well the battery is at the FedEx facility in Joplin, MO, supposed to be here by end of day.

I need some input,, do any of you have some good ways to actually move the battery out of and back into the prius without damaging it??????????
The outside shell is fairly thin sheet metal so I want to be careful with it. Any good YouTubes that actually show someone dragging it out without kicking and screeching???
This procedure may happen soon around here.

    Thanks,

One word of caution (maybe 2):
    • The sheet metal edges are sharp and will easily slice so wear appropriate safety gear
    • The pack is awkward
There are many YouTube videos on how to remove and replace (most do it from the back hatch);).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

I laid a small pice of plywood over the spare tire and the various wires and cables. That made it a fairly simple matter to slide the battery out the back.

Getting it started necessitated getting all the way in the back so I didn't strain my back by reaching too far. Once you get it all the way to the rear, it's not hard if you have normal health to lift it out. I think it's around 85 pounds. I wore leather gloves and got it started by just sliding one side for a few inches and then the other, working it a little at a time untill I got to where I could reach it standing on the ground.

Before you pick it up, test the places you want to grab for lifting to make sure they won't bend. I don't remember exactly where I held on, but it did take a little experimentation before I decided on the best lifting points.

If you have someone to help you, that may make it easier, but I'm used to lifting heavy stuff, so I felt more confident doing it myself.

I got the HometownHybrid rebuilt battery put in my car yesterday.
NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH!!!! Except for the ones that are normal;)
I have not hooked up the computer to it yet but it sure runs good!!
I drove it to my older brother's home (just to test it) and it got 60 mpg going there!!
When I got back it was showing 53.5 mpg.

I used my engine hoist to pull the old batt. out and put the rebuilt in, worked like a charm.

    Thanks for the help,

Well I had a light come on several times lately, It has to do with the HID Headlights. So, since I already had the Rear Axle Sensor for the HID Light System in stock, I replaced it....
No More Light!! Now I need to replace some burned out light bulbs on the car (not on dash) and put some new tires on the wheels so my Grand-daughter has a safe car to drive.

Then the car will be ready to go for a long while, I hope. I have looked at brakes etc. and cannot find anything else I need to do to the car.

The HV Battery is doing very well, I did hook the computer up (Techtronics software) and found NO CODES showing up...:)

    Thanks for the help,
