Now you know both the importance of getting the right parts and proper installation. Although using a torque wrench is best, a general guide for sparkplugs is to hand tightened them till they seat and then a quarter turn more with a wrench; basically good and snug.

Gap = spark Plug gap = distance in thousands of a inch between center post and ground, usually around .020 to .030” Most plugs are pregapped, nowadays.

  4. @fotomoto thank you for the tip! @Andyprius1 thank you for the info!

Soooooo...the check engine light came on while driving to work  Going to take it to the dealership tomorrow morning. I just hope it's nothing serious. I SWEAR I WILL NEVER WORK ON A CAR AGAIN! It is not worth the headache for me

What did you use to clean your maf sensor?

  6. CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. Sprayed it directly on the sensor using the red straw (straw did not make contact with the sensor).

Common things that can cause check engine light on prius.

    1. Loose gas cap
    2. Bad 3 way valve
    3. Bad catalytic converter

    Empty pockets
Sensor must be cleaned underneath also.

Already you understand the car better than day before yesterday.

  9. Ugh...option #3 is the winner.. Code P0420. Local dealer quoted me $2500. NO WAY I AM PAYING THAT MUCH!!!

Yes, but in my opinion it was not worth the cost. Well over 12 hours lost and a $2500 quote...

  10. Although I have DTC code P0420, the car is running fine right now. Am I able to drive it for the next couple of days while I try to get better quotes from local shops?

If you're not in a CARB state, a state that follows California emissions rules, you can buy an aftermarket catalytic converter for about $100.

Well at least you can still drive your car until you need to address the check engine light issue (ex when smog inspections are required) car won't break down
