+90F (32C) only 5.8 kWh

    In two hours, we only got 5.8 kWh whereas before we'd seen 6.4 kWh in cooler weather.

    I wonder if the prime adjusts the maximum charge based on temp? That would be pretty cool actually.

    I don't know as this is my first, hot weather charging session. We had some last summer and they appeared normal. No measurable effect on EV range, yet.

    What pisses me off is the prompt to use AC when charging is only visible for less than 5 seconds when turning off the car. I'm used to this race and have my thumb on the right-hand, roundel, so I caught it. When I came back after getting some groceries, I could hear the AC running. So answering "Yes" works but it is a race (or memory and alertness test.)

    Interesting. It would be interesting to see if the AC makes a difference in charging speed, max charge, or both.

    I'm struck by how in the cold season we investigated Prime driving performance and now in the hot season, time for another study.

    Speculation, I'm thinking I might use Time of Day charging to allow power charging between 10-12 PM through 9-10 AM. To be more useful, I need a concurrent battery temperature measurement which may be tricky.

    I charged by plugging into a Kill-A-Watt meter last night and it took 6.48 kWh. Temperatures in my area are highs upper 90s and lows in the upper 70s.

    I thought KWHr useage was just that. Amount of electric power required to fully charge Prime.
    If so, this indicates less required power needed in hotter temperatures than cooler. There’s not a
    relation to Miles charged or miles used, there are other factors involved there.

    I just bought a new Prime. It is so cool to see some of the same people hear discussing these topics of the newest Prius technology 14 years after we had the same discussions about my '04

    I have a canadian model 2018 Prime. The "Use AC for Charging" doesn't disappear in mine. Sometimes I turn off the vehicle and I see that notification, and it doesn't go away. I have ample time to select "Yes"

    So after running the battery down to ~2%, I waited until a local shower reduced the temperatures to ~75F:
    • 5.55 kWh / 98% ~= 5.7 kWh
    Not definitive but curious. I'm seeing the same input charge as at the higher temperature. A longer cold soak might have a different result.
