My 2007 Prius has started to "Peel", on the Roof, hood and doors! I was shocked, as I have never had a car "Peel" before - I hope this is covered by my garantee?? If someone else is having the same problem, please inform. Thank you

There's a possibility it was repainted, with poor preperation. Are you the original owner? Even so, it might have been painted due to damage in shipping. This happened to us a few decades back. Maybe yes, maybe no, but something to get checked out.

One clue would be different colored primer, especially evident if it was partially repainted. Most obvious would be to look for overspray: no matter how good it's masked, there's very likely to be some.

Leave a car of that age sitting in the sun, don't wax it on a regular basis and that is what happens, can't imagine a guarantee on paint that would apply to a car that old. I do however have a friend who has an 07 Prius with peeling paint, seems to be the norm in sunny southern California.

I believe your referring to the clear coat that is applied over the paint. My 07 has this occurring on the hatch.

Sadly, this is a fairly common problem in the auto industry. Partially to blame is the change in formula to be more environmentally friendly

I have a 2010 and the paint is just falling off in places. I'm not talking about impacts, bugs, scratches or anything like that. It just has fallen off, and then the spot gets bigger as other areas around it give up, too. It's not bubbling first, and when it happens away from edges there's not rust that sets in (so far). I've definitely never seen anything like this before, and I've owned other vehicles (Jeeps) kept in identical conditions (places parked at work, place parked at home). I was hoping Toyota would cover it, but they don't since it's outside the 3 year 35,000 mile warranty. I suppose I'll have to get it repainted, and I'm not excited about that.

First owner? Again, I'm thinking shoddy repaint.

Wow that stinx! I've had it happen before to a Mustang but it was about 20yrs ago. I've seen it happen to newer vehicles of certain years. From the research I've done it has to do with the galvanizing of the metal and the paint not sticking to it properly . If its peeling on the hood as well as the roof since the hood is aluminum and the roof steel it sounds like cooked paint rather than a galvanizing problem.

I keep a good coat of good quality wax on my Prius ti doesn't really take much time if you get the right wax and sure looks nice this may help the paint from cooking. When I lived in LosAngeles I would throw a car cover over my car when I wasn't using it not sure if it did any good but it did keep the dust off .

My 2004 has endured NY winters and south Florida for the last few years and the paint (silver) is holding up fine. Obviously, the key is maintaining the wax etc.

I had some rust bubbles starting to show up under the paint of the leading edge of the roof on my 2012. The dealer looked at it and repainted the whole roof, gave me a loaner car under the warranty with no problem. Daytona Toyota comes thru when something goes wrong.

My 2007 Prius does the same thing . The way the paint comes off is as though the Prius has been driven through a sandstorm though it has has been garaged and not subject to anything that would produce that effect. It is like little bubbles of paint thousands that come up to the surface. Touch up paint does not stay on more than one or two drives. That is my only beef with Toyota. Toyota should absolutely cover this problem as I've never seen it on any other car. It is not normal and reduces the value of the car. A recall is in order.

I think the paint is just not that great on toyotas. On my 2007 the clear coat is starting to peel on the roof and I've waxed it at least once a year but I do live in CA with lots of sun

My Blue 2009 Prius’s roof also had a few bubbles on it and an auto shop said that it shouldn’t occur and the dealer should take care of it. I did purchase this new. The peeling (of the clear) is now all across the roof. But the dealer did a test and said that it’s not something they cover. Like another here in this thread, I never have a car peel like this. True, it’s been in the California sun, but none of the other cars in my area seem to have peeling like this. I think Toyota should take responsibility for this. Clear should last more than 8-9 years shouldn’t it? As I’ve said, comparing other cars in my neighborhood and area, I don’t see this, even on the older cars.

I see plenty of cars with roof paint peeling, especially if they are over 10 years old
