Saw this info from a Toyota dealer in NV:
To take advantage of the Toyota Navigation system update on your Toyota Camry or other model, follow the below instructions:

    1. Remove the SD card from your vehicle’s system.
    2. Download the Toolbox for your Mac or Windows computer.
    3. Launch the Toolbox application.
    4. Load the SD card into your computer’s internal or external SD card reader.
    5. Follow the registration process.
    6. After successful registration, all available updates will appear, including Map Updates.
    7. Install updates and backup your program.
    8. Eject the SD card properly then reinstall into your vehicle.
    Toyota Navigation Takes You Further
Toyota Entune gives you access to many helpful apps and fun features, but the Toyota Navigation App might be the most useful for finding new destinations and the best routes possible to take you there. The Toyota Navigation update is free for customers that fall under their current warranty and was made available in February 2017 to integrate new features as long as you’re still within your three year complimentary update territory.

Available in the Toyota Corolla tech package and across the Toyota model lineup, the Toyota Entune suite helps you get to new places on time when you keep your app up to date!

AFAIK, the only cars that actually support that method of updating are the Yaris iA, some European-market cars with Toyota Touch&Go or Toyota Touch 2 with Go, and some Middle Eastern-market cars with an Android-based Garmin system.

maps.JPG I just did this update for my 2016gen4 Toyota Touch 2 (europe).
You need an 8gb usb memory (for some reason it took ages to download and unpack).

"The map of Europe" download is free.
You can choose which countries to load in and it did some update for the navigation software itself.
    (that was free).

But the map updates with new roads etc cost money.
You can download the free update from my toyota store here in europe and buy the new maps as a yearly package "mapcare &services" it includes speed cameras and some other services (129,00€ 1 year or 229,00€ 3 years) or as a single map update 119,00€.

    Pretty steep for my taste.

But of course this is the Touch 2 GO, totally different system.

I don't care since I pretty much always use my phone for navigation.

On the UK MyToyota website it says the map updates are charged (£119 last time I looked IIRC) but when you click on the update it is free for the first 3 years so it comes up as £0.00 when clicked on.

I searched on EBay where it was suggested the latest version for USA was 86271-0E185A though most selling 86271-0E185.
I looked at the part number of what is in my 2016 Prius IV where its part number is 86271-35013. Stepping up the last digit up by one, I was able to find 86271-35015 for as low as $45. So the question remains: is the correct # 86271-35015 or 86271-0E185?

They're not illegal if they are genuine Toyota parts. Those are genuine Toyota part numbers.

I doubt you can't (re)sell, assuming they're obtained legally. A potential source would be totaled vehicles.

Well I was able to answer my question.
Memory Card - Toyota (86271-0E185) | Toyota Parts
Lists the part number to be 86271-0E185 which replaces 86271-35015 and 86271-35013 among others.

As for legality, I can't see buying from this site is likely no different than buying wiper blades, which I found can be another source of conflict for the correct ones.

You're confused. You're thinking of those who are selling copied versions of the DVD nav discs. Those are the ones we're not allowing on PriusChat. If you're selling your old disc, that's fine.

ah, thanks. how do we determine the difference?

so, toyota has no issue with one of us purchasing a disk, and passing it around to as many as possible?
