Hi! I've got yet another prius I'm looking into. This one is a 2008 prius at 130,000 miles. It was in a collision that damaged the body of the car in the front right side. The repairs were just a new tires and fender but seemed minimal as far as accidents can go. I asked about the battery and the dealer said they were told the prius did not have its original battery though I don't know if it's current one is new or refurbished. It is a toyota brand battery though. Currently it is getting 47.4 MPG. They are asking $4600 but as it is a rebuilt title I feel like that may be too much. All in all, my questions are, how much would you deem this rebuilt 2008 prius worth from a dealer? Can you tell what condition the battery is in at 47 MPG?
Hopefully this makes sense to all of you. Thanks for any help!

Check out blue book for non salvage and then reduce the amount substantially.

Double check with your insurance how the title branding affects coverage.

Are you talking about the hybrid battery?
If it has not been replaced, it will likely need it in the next few years. A ~$3000 expense, so factor that in as well.

don't judge a battery by its cover.

why would they total a car that only needed a fender?(n)

A 10+ year old car with 100,000+ miles will be totaled if the bumper cover needs to be replaced. Look at Copart sometime...

Hard pass for me. Insurance companies are PROFESSIONALS. There is a reason this Prius is totaled. Save your money and keep looking.
Another few weeks or months and you'll have a bit more money saved up and that much longer for a good deal to come around.

I was burned once some years ago by a salvage titled vehicle. It's just not worth the time and effort IMO.

    Good luck in your search!
