Fair price for '05 with a bad traction battery?

    Hi everyone!

    I'm looking at a low miles (60k) 2005 with a bad traction battery. Carfax is clean, and I took the VIN to Toyota's website and pulled the service history.

    Regular dealer maintenance. Miles are original and not rolled. No accidents, local car. At that mileage, it's probably a snowbird / senior vehicle. Interior is spotless. Headlights are clear and glossy, which means it's been garaged and out of the desert sun.

    Inverter / water pump replaced in 2017. Transmission service / fluid replaced in 2017, too.

    In Feb. of 2018, it threw P0335 / P1340 and the apparent solution was to replace both air filters. Sounds weird to me, but we get dust storms out here. Report also says "hot soak / no start."

    In April of 2018, it was taken to the dealer because the check engine light was on. Service report said multiple ECU and hv codes, but didn't list them. Said hv battery was weak and needed replacement.

    The car is not at a Toyota dealer, and I don't know if the dealer has done anything about the hybrid battery. I am assuming not, which means I'll need to do an immediate replacement. I've got that sourced, so now it's about price.

    What's a fair price for an '05 in this condition? Do the above issues in 2018 raise any red flags beyond the traction battery?

    Current asking price is $7,900.

    P.S. We own another '05 with 126k miles. The new one, if we buy it, is for our college-bound kid.

    check the kbb and subtract the cost of a new battery. only thing is, you won't know if there are any other issues til you get it up and running.

    The check engine light would be emissions related if it's on by itself, bc which Toyota should cover under warranty as the car has a 15 year 150k miles emissions warranty.

    $7,900 sounds steep even for California. I think that's the price for the car with a new battery (not a rebuilt one or a bad one).

    That's EXACTLY what I did 2.5 years ago: found an 06 with only 42k miles and needing a new battery. All in with NEW Toyota battery: $8500.

    Wait, what?

    Last Fall I paid $7200 for an '08 with a GOOD (for how long, who knows?) traction battery. $7900 with a bad battery sounds like a lousy deal to me. I'll happily sell you my car with a GOOD traction battery for $7900 :)

    So dealer's can sell an unrepaired car?

    My prices are when purchased from private seller.
    Not sure hih much more to add for dealership prices, assuming you get a warranty.

    If it isn't running, I'd say $1000 at most for an average mile vehicle.
    At most double that amount for a low mileage one.

    In good running condition I would not spend more than $6,000 for the low mileage Prius.

    I'd say it's worth maybe 6k full functional.. and maybe 2k without the battery working. We are talking about a 13 year old car here.. things start to age and deteriorate after about 10 from my experience.

    I have seen them here in CALIFORNIA for as low as 2,500 average 5000 running I am in fresno ca.seems high do not hurry look on Craigslist and MAYBE letgo,you will probably be replacing the t.v. battery in any car even with car fax?
