I was in a car accident with my 2013 Prius a few months ago. The body shop fixed the side paneling and in the process had to replace the driver's side door. My locks do not function the same. Before they did the work I could unlock just the driver's side by clicking the unlock button once and the rest of the doors would stay locked. Same with using the smart key feature. Now I click once and everything unlocks- same with the smart key. The old way required me to click the unlock button twice to unlock all of the doors.

I explained this to the body shop and they have not been helpful and unable to fix. They took it to the Toyota dealer and they don't know how to fix it either. They initially claimed it was because of an aftermarket extra FOB key (I'm not convinced it's even aftermarket- I bought used), but I presented that to them and they seem to have been wrong about that too. Still no fix. Now apparently the dealer is claiming to have to install a whole new alarm system. The body shop says they can't guarantee that work will even fix the problem. That doesn't make sense to me either. Anyone with any experience on this issue?

This is one of the standard user controllable features. Have the dealership use Techstream and change the door to only unlock the one door instead of all doors. Under the customize menu.

Some people (like me) hate the one door opening only and immediately change it.

Thanks. Can I obtain TechStream and do it myself?

You can change the lock preference by standing next to your car and pressing and holding the lock and unlock on your fob for about 5 seconds. It'll beep 3 times and you'll change the setting from 1 door to all doors. Do it again and it'll go back to other setting

I tried that several times and it didn't do anything to my locks. They still function the same. I saw the display light up within the car to go from 1 to 4 doors but ultimately it made no difference.

Try disconnecting the 12v battery for a minute, it'll reset the car. You'll lose your preset radio, clock, and auto window settings. But those are easy to put back

I'll have to try that. I'll report back. The 12 volt in the back of the car right? Do you think it will revert back to the default setting? Is the default setting only having the driver's door unlock at one push of the unlock?

Unfortunately, unplugging the 12V didn't work. I unplugged the negative terminal and the locks are doing the same thing.

How old of Windows? I have Windows 7 and have been reading TechStream can support up to Windows 10. I have 64-bit version but I saw some articles that explain maybe how TechStream can be used with that with some additional work.

It depends on which version of techsteam; older versions needs older OS, newer will run on newer OS. I have version 12 purchased from a bootlegger from I won't say. People say it has a virus from the seller but it had none on my Win 10, just pay attention which files you allow to run and turn off firewall in and outbound of techsteam and you'll be okay.

Thanks I hadn't seen this. I'm a little confused by the instructions though. Do I have to also hold the driver's door handle while holding both buttons for 5 seconds? I've been holding both buttons for that long with the car off and have seen the menu flash on the dash. I change modes supposedly but the locks function the same.

@RRxing posting should work, that's the drill for changing the behavior, one door vs all doors: maybe something is messed up from the accident?

I don't know. The body shop replaced the door. They say their work has nothing to do with how it's functioning but it worked before they worked on it. Would this possibly have something to do with the alarm installed on the car? They are claiming that they will likely have to replace the entire alarm and aren't even sure if that will fix the problem. It was working after the accident and before I had the work done to fix the side of the car (I was sideswiped), so I know it has something to do with the removal of the old door.

It's a less than a minute job with techstream. You say you'd already been to the dealer to try and sort it, so just go back armed with the info.

Will TechStream work though, if the FOB button press technique isn't doing the job?

The base model Prius did not have ability to change which doors open upon unlock.

I wonder if the replacement door is the problem.
Although I don't remember any why this would be.

Maybe if you could obtain the VIN of the car the door came from you could confirm if it came from a base model car.

Alternately if you could open up your door and compare it to a higher trim model and see if something is different about it?

I've never thought much about the possibility of a door making a difference. Perhaps someone else can confirm.

Interesting thoughts. I would have that the Toyota dealer would have used TechStream by now. The body shop has taken it to them twice now and neither one has been able to fix the issue. Though maybe they haven't. Both places seem to not know what they're doing...

Just an update for all those interested. The problem was fixed after they removed an aftermarket alarm. I honestly think they just didn't know how to properly set the alarm up to work with the car after they did the body work. It seemed to work before. Oh well. Problem fixed I guess.
