    Oh, look at the interior! The Nozomi JR500 is one of the best-looking high speed trains, imho, but I'm not a big enough fan of Hello Kitty (as in not at all) to appreciate the livery. But feast your eyes, HKMB. ;)

    I usually ride the Hikari. The Nozomi is the moneymaker. I heard that, at one point, the fare from Tokyo to Nagoya on the Nozomi was about as much as the cost for a flight from New York to Tokyo.

    When you ride the shinkansen, you really need to get up to the rail car's vestibule after the 2nd time they announce your stop. The station stops are 2 minutes or less.

    I do like China's new Fuxing trains. I think they look very cool and futuristic.

    The old Harmony trains were a bit bland.

    Although there was another Harmony with a cooler nose, the blue-and-white livery was still a bit dull.

    Is there a Hello Kitty city in Japan? With giant murals all over the streets and buildings?

    "Let the zombie graffiti artists loose upon the city to Hellokittyfy everything in sight!", says hkmb......;)

    There is Sanrio Puroland.

    It is like Disneyland, but for the Sanrio characters (Hello Kitty mainly, but also Dear Daniel (Hello Kitty's chaste boyfriend), Bad Badtz-maru (an angry penguin), Kogepan (some burnt toast, obviously) and My Melody (a rabbit who is in no way similar to Miffy)).

    It is actually weirder than it looks from these pictures.

    I went with my daughters, who were five and two at the time. This makes it OK.

    What was really strange was how many adult Japanese women were there who had clearly arranged babysitting so they could go to Sanrio Puroland and go on the Hello Kitty rides and watch the Hello Kitty shows without having their kids around to ruin the experience.

    Continuing with tochatihu's fun suggestion, I'll follow Hello Kitty City with Hello Kitty ditty.

    I'd suggest the last entry should be Hello Kitty Zombie, but we'll see when we get there. :)

    Incredible, but true.

    If only Japan weren't so clean and genteel. Otherwise, the part of Tokyo that Hello Kitty City is in could be described as gritty. Or s---ty. But it's actually pretty.
